I've been on 200mg. minocycline for 2 weeks now. Hospital 2x in one week, a bunch of emotional stuff (hospital, gallbladder and sodium problme). Shehas me on mino until I test for penicillin to put me on amxoy. Experience on mino especially after 2 weeks ago surgery and sodium deficiency? Not exactly experiences on the 2nd part, but what about mino?

Thanks,
cigi

Hi there,

Yes you can definitly herx on 200mg of mino, as this is a treatment used for lyme disease by some doctors. I have heard and done for acne this drug and many start at 100mg and work up.

I herxed on this (but didn't know what was happening at the time as I didn't know I had lyme), and it was rough, mainly neuro symptoms.

Have heard good things about it and it is used for mycoplams infections too, those you have RA,etc and don't go the lyme route.

Hope you feel better soon.

Take Care

The point is to use minocycline pulse regime , use it every 48 hours and You will see. This antibiotic works when concentration drops to zero ,bacause minocycline itself blocks immune ability to kill intracellular pathogens.
So You will feel worse other day , be carefull with herxheimer ,don`t take too much mino at once. see how it works here http://www.sarcinfo.com/minocin.htm

be carefull.

Oh yes.. that can make you herx.. a lot!

Some folks only take 25 mg every other day... so that is a BIG dose.

Have you considered lowering the dose so you don't end up in the duck motel again?

Not to scare you.. but herxes CAN and HAVE killed folks. If the meds make you bad enough to end up in the duck motel...

Ya might want to do something different.

But you are NOT to listen to me or do anything I suggest without speaking to your doctor FIRST!

I am NOT a doctor.

Mino can be a great kete killer, but I needed to build up slowly to 200 mg

I started with 100 mg everyother day/ Now finally at 200 per day and been herxing for better part of 3 weeks.

Mino brought up a lot of psychological and emotional stuff for me. I think it's clearing stuff out, but the ride has not been so fun. Still occasionally I get clearings... If they are a sign of things to come, I will seel much better someday.

I hope you do too!

I have become a real herx weany. I hate herxing and herx hard on everything I have yet tried. I've been working with Mino and finally got up to a whole, whopping 10 mgs every other day!!!! It makes me cringe to consider starting at 200 mgs.

Hmmmm, I started on Minocin 300 mg. per day (100 in the am and 200 in the pm). This is my first Lyme med (have had symptoms at least 15 years, probably had it for 25 but was only diagnosed this year.)

So far the herxing has been a lot less severe than my Lyme symptoms. Mostly knee and hand/wrist pain and nausea(I've only been on Mino for about a month -- probably haven't hit my stride yet).

However, I did truly want to strangle the 3 people who's company I was "enjoying" tonight, so maybe the herxing is worse than I think it is!

I am on 200mg daily now with few probems, but I am now in my 4th year of Lyme treatment.

Earlier, in the first 3 years, I was completley unable to take 100mg. The headache I got was unbearable, and I also was so dizzy and disoriented that I felt almost psychotic. This year, I got a little dizzy but only briefly and it has helped a lot.

I think my bacterial load must be lower so the "herxing" isn't as bad as it was. In ohter words, if you have big problems with the mino, use gentler meds for awhile and then go aback and try the mino again...don't give up on it entirely, it's a good med.

Mino is the reason I am so scared of the abx. It was the first one I was given 200mg with zith I thought my head was going to explode really i wanted to die and thought i might. I am on a combo now but it's my first real combo with a full strength NOT a mino combo it will be a long time before i could force my arm to put that in my mouth. BUT i know it is good and really works for a lot of people but it is VERY powerful
I hope you feel better soon

U were taking two antibiotics zithromax and minocycline together ??
mino alone is powerfull ,zithromax stays in a tissue 2 weaks and it is in second phase of marshall protocol after only mino treatnent.
Man U were giving double quantity to 30S sub unit of 70s ribosome of the bacterias. They were wying so fast releasing toxins and cytokines that You could harm Yourself.

Six days after initial infection, the doc px'd about 250mg. of doxycycline, as a loading dose.

I had a severe herx(and increased intracranial pressure).

felt like I got hit in the head with a baseball bat, swelling down into neck to about the base of the neck.

felt like two "flourescent bulbs" in my brain stem/diencephalan) got "switched on."
I probably had a cerebellitis, as I moved about, arms and legs, whole body moved in the fashion as seeing people move in a room with a strob light on, but NOT as dramatically, but visually, probably visually imperceptibly, by others.

since, mino is supposed to be more potent in some respect(s)(?), i'd say 200mg. of minocycline would've sent me to the emergency room.

and i meant it.

Doxy is nothing comparing to mino. doxy spectrum is wrong for L forms ,cwd bacterias.
mimi this antybiotics makes u sick cause they are really working and were chosen to work against CWD , L forms of borellia.
With bugs dying dies cell where theese bugs live in and this excerbates symptoms of disease.

I have learned this sinced then. This was my first experience with abx. I will probably end up taking it again. I am on mepron, biaxin, clindmyacin but this is my first real attempt with abx since the mino except for some doxy, and zith for short periods. I am learning
thanks for the info and concern
Hope all of you are doing better

Heard from Dr. H today about Daughter's pain in ears, eyes and pressure in head. HE took her off the Rocephin injections and the Mepron and just left her on the Ketek for now..........wants her to have an MRI. The pain in her head never started until she began the mepron, it never lets up. She was on mino for about 2 weeks and couldn't deal with the chest pain (went to ER), head aches(that came and went) and dizziness. I guess she will have to wait on the Mino or Doxy till she has more die off. She has never done the work up to it slow theory, maybe next time she starts a new med we will do that. I am feeling like my cupboard is becoming a pharmacy. I am sure we will eventually use it up.........any suggestions on how to store it so it will keep better?

Made the mistake of taking my first minocycline pill at work just after lunch. Within an hour I started feeling dizzy and disoriented. Felt like I'd had a few drinks at lunch instead of just my lunch and the pill.

Took it again that evening. Woke up and could barely walk straight. Dummy me took it again and called into work sick. Took me until lunch time to realize the medicine was making me sick.

Could barely walk down the hall way to get my son off to school. Felt like I was drunk with the spins. Stopped taking it and was back to normal the next morning.

Called the doc and he put me on doxy with the ceftin I had already been taking.

I don't think I was herxing. I think I had a reaction to the minocycline. Now I know why he has said "if there's a problem with this call me and I'll give you somthing else."

Anyone else with this problem?

This reaction to minocycline is part of healing process. It is herxheimer because minocycline really works. doxy dosen`t work and mino will make U feel worse but with time it will stop to make u feel worse and u will fell better. Have You seen http://www.marshallprotocol.com ?

I'm sure mino works but I think I remember reading in the pamphlet that comes with the medication that it could cause dizziness.

And if I really was herxing I don't think I could handle more than a day. I was dizzy within 45 minutes. I've never herxed that quickly before.

I've had adverse reactions to drugs in the past and this definetly felt like that.

The doxy seems to be working well for me. My fatigue has almost gone away. No more naps for hours on the weekends.

Does anyone take doxy and mino? I would imagine that would be a doozy of a herx.

LymeinDunkirk:

Yes, the dizziness is a SIDE EFFECT (e.g., not "herx") per PDR of minocycline. Oftentimes (but not always), the dizziness abates after several days-2 weeks.

One would not take both doxy & mino together as they are part of the same antibiotic family and would therefore not confer any additional benefit by taking both.
