Hi, I've been on ketek for 3 months now and it's a miracle drug when it comes to helping with the concentration and brain stuff.

I really don't want to stop my ketek treatment but I can't find a good bart drug that won't interact with it. I wanted rifampin for bart bu there's drug interaction. I don't want to leave the ketek but need bart treatment ASAP.. Any suggestions?
thank you,
Lynn

Good question

Our LLMD stopped all other abx while treating Bart with rifampin. Said that rifampin doesn't like any other abx.

I don't know why, however. Seems to be clearing some of the symptoms for the last 2 years, so we will keep on it.

Good luck

What about minocycline and ketek; mino treats bart right?
Is there a drug interaction for those?
thanx

Are you taking anything with the Ketek at all? Mino and doxy have action against bart, but I don't know if they are compatible with Ketek. Levaquin is really good for Bart, but might be too much to take with ketek.

I was wondering if you are on the Ketek for the treatment of Lyme?

I have bever heard of that as a treatment, but am interested b/c I believe its part of the pennicillan family, and I do well with pennicillans.

Does Ketek cross the BBB?

Thanks for any info!

ketek is the newest macrolide used to treat lyme and,AFAIK, does not cross well

Hi,

How about a fluoroquinolone such as Levaquin? This can be used for Bartonella in combo with erythromycin (macrolide), but perhaps it might make a good combo with the ketolide (ketek). Just something to consider.

I can tell you what I take, but please be careful with this, if you try it. There's no guarantee that this is safe, I was just lucky. Also, I take very strong liver support supplements.

Ketek 400mg/2x day
Rifampin 150mg/2x day (open 300mg capsules, pour half into gel caps)
Omnicef 300mg/2x day
Dr. Zhang's Hepa Formula 2 for liver support
Nystatin for yeast

I also take medicine for babesia, but you didn't say you needed that.

There is no way I can take the 300mg/2x day of rifampin that is the normal bart dosage. Again, I'm just lucky I didn't have a severe case of it. Even so, it took a couple of months before I really started to see the symptoms diminish to the point where I could skip a dose and not immediately relapse.
