Hello everyone...

This may be a stupid question, but jaw pain/TMJ is associated with lyme right?? i think i know it is.

Tonight im having really bad jaw pain/tension..when i was eating it was popping every time i would open my mouth and now it hurts to close my jaw all the way. Its real bothersome.

Does anyone else get this, and what causes it..(like grinding teeth in sleep or clenching teeth or just a lyme thing?) And what can i do for pain because im getting a migrane as a result of the jaw pain i am guessing ?? I just want to know more about it possibly...

Thanks
Korinne

Yes. Lyme can cause jaw pain and tmj symptoms.

I had jaw pain that was related to the muscles in my neck. The inflammation of the muscles caused tightening that sent pain to the jaw.

Good evening Korinne,

I am so sorry that you are experiencing this particular problem...I have been there many times myself in the past, and it is quite painful.

Yes, LD does cause this to happen, and the above link will provide you with much information.

Grinding your teeth at night from stress can trigger this...and in that case, a bite splint from your dentist is recommended.

But it is also caused from inflammation of a nerve, and only with proper treatment will it eventually fade.

My best,
Melanie

I get jaw pain, migraines and under jaw lymph gland inflamation. Sets me non-functional and in a lot of pain for about 3 days down. And I am a pretty tuff cookie too.
My best to you and I am sorry that you get this too. You are not alone. I find a hot water bottle and a message help a little bit.

Hi Korinne21,

I've had this pain for for years. I still felt like I had cavities even after my four cavities were filled.

Jaw pain can also be caused by clenching teeth. I would catch myself doing this when I was in alot of pain with other parts of my body.

Anyway it gets better. Biaxin has helped with the pain in the jaw and headaches amongst other things.

Heather

most tmj is not related to lyme but either grinding or missing teeth that put the muscles of the jaw in spasm.
the lower law is the only double jointed joint in the body ,hence pressure on one side causes tension on the other side, putting the muscles in a state of stress.
physical and mental stress can cause an acute onset of the symptoms.niteguard is simplest treatment.sometimes antianexiety drugs are used

Well hey everyone,

I am updating..my jaw pain continued last night...i also got like a shock like sensation in my head and it worried me...

this morning it was still there so i went to the local emergency room, because when it comes to my brain, i dont take chances.

The doc said it looks like i have something called trigeminal neuralgias its an inflimation of the largest nerve in your brain and its known as "nerve seizures" guess this must be a lyme thing! It hurts!

Im such a cry baby, lol...the doc gave me anti-inflamitories and sent me home..im going to speak to my llmd about it tonight when i go to him. So yea...the doc also said it can be from TMJ...ick

Just wanted to update gonna take something for pain now hehe..

I'm sending you some positive energy Korinne. It sounds like you need it. I got that shock sensation in my foot once, can't imagine it in my head.

corrine,

Were you recently or are you currently taking a SSRI, these can cause teeth clenching.
