Hi Ya'll!

The last 2 or 3 months I have been having horrendous day sweats. I'm talking all day long It's a little embarrassing, in that I work in retail. My hair stays wet all day. I asked my LLMD and he was stumped. He told me to pose my question to ya'll- so here I am.

I'm currently on Levaquin and artemisinin and have been for a while. I haven't had any night sweats lately. Had a total hyst. 10 years ago and take Evista for HRT. Sooo knowing all that, any ideas?

Thanks and Take Care....Terri

Sure could be babs. My son had it and his sweats weren't neccessarily just at nighttime.

Levaquin and artemisinin ? Might want to talk to your doc about adding plaquenil to the mix. Art works better when combined with mepron, malarone, plaquenil, etc. or other anti-malarial drugs.

Generally, zithromax is tha abx of choice combined with mep or the aforementioned combos for babs. Quinine is used often in combination as well.

The fact that your night sweats have diminished tells me your on the right track.

Good morning Terri!

Nice to ``see'' you again!

I couldn't say for sure what the trouble is, but thought ``Babs'' immediately.
It looks like you are treating that with Artemisininininin...have you taken any other Babs treatment? (it can sure be a stinker to get rid of)

My best,
Melanie

Throughout the years after being sick with Lyme and undertreated, one of my most horrendous symptoms was daytime sweats. I'd take a shower, put a terrycloth robe on and sit down to watch some TV or read and before my hair could dry it was wet again. There were days when I had to stuff a hand towel down the back of my shirt to absorb the sweat. I kept my office thermostat at 50 all winter long. It's only now that I realize I had/have babesiosis along with the chronic Lyme. The sweating went on for a long time but gradually subsided. I'm actually glad to hear when other people talk about daytime sweats. (I never had night sweats!)

I just re-read your post and something very scary jumped out at me. You asked your LLMD about this and he was "stumped"? Sorry, but he does not sound Lyme-literate at all. Wouldn't he know about the co-infections and their symptoms if he was LL?

I get this too. Sometimes it feels like an oily sweat. Yuck. It's not menopause, either!

Thanks ya'll!

NP40- I take it your son got rid of the babs?
That's wonderful . I guess I haven't.

Melanie- Nice to "see" you too! Yup I've done lots of the old liquid gold. Thinking about trying Riamet next.

Erica- It sux doesn't it? Have you gotten rid of yours?

Laurie- That's exactly how mine is. Are you treating the babs now? Thanks for asking about my doc. He is a member of ILADS and very LL. I've been treated for babs several times but I always had night sweats. This is a new one on both of us. He puts a lot of stock in what other lymies have to say, since they would know best

cindy_leigh- Exactly! Are you doing anything about yours?

Take Care....Terri

From www.neuraltherapy.com/articles
"Lyme Disease: A Look Beyond Antibiotics"

"D. the next step is the treatment of Babesia . There are now at least 17 subtypes of this intracellular Malaria-like organism. Eye, brain and dental symptoms are most often caused by this mean microbe.

Protocol: Frequency #2 in the KMT 22 TENS unit inhibits the metabolic activity of Babesia and is used 3 times weekly.
I also use Artemisinin, 2 cap 2times/day. 3 weeks on, 1 week off. Always with 1/2 glass of grapefruit juice. 3 cycles. Watch iron levels! Artemisinin provokes the intestinal wall to secrete an enzyme which destroys the medication before it can be absorbed. This process builds up over 3 weeks. After a one week pause the enzyme has disappeared and takes another 3 weeks to reemerge. Grapefruit juice prevents formation of this enzyme.

Alternatives are the Swiss Malaria drug Riamet (1 course) which is very well tolerated and Mepron, which is forbiddingly expensive.
Taurox 6X, a sophisticated designer compound marketed as a homeopathic remedy, is very effective in treating the associated fatigue, eye symptoms and erratic emotional behaviour. It has an independent immune system regulating effect.

Hi, Lyma Bean!

Take care.

Lyma Bean,

Don't feel bad. I'm a sweety mess too.

On top of that the air conditioner in my car broke. I got it fixed but it does'nt quite feel cold enough.

I feel as if all air conditioners are not working well.

Hey Lyma-Baby!

I'm a sweathog too! I can sit in front of a @#$%ing FAN and have sweat dripping all over me!!!

Do you think it's our 100 degree days and the 1,000 degree heat index we've got here in the great state of Texas?

Yee haw it's hot! Looking forward to October!

My ex-doc was recently making speeches around town to the effect that you have to take two teaspoons of mepron twice a day for babs or it won't work. Nine months ago, I tested this theory by adding high-dose mepron to artemisinin and ketek.

What's interesting is that this combo works fast against babs, but you still have to go through lots of generations of the stupid bug. For the first seven months, I felt fine as long as I kept it up, but relapsed quickly if I lowered the dosage. For the past two months, I've only had one little babs relapse per month, and it gets squelched in a couple of days.

So I'm still staying on the over the top mepron combo through the end of the year, but can say that it does work to gradually phase out babesia.

I take it twice a day...mepron, along with 500 mg Zith in the AM...when I go off of it....I go downhill in a matter of days.

Ketek...and Mepron...hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I also get the old dark urine thingy about every 3 weeks or so.

Liz.... I am curious....how 'bout that Ketek...who's your LLMD...you can back channel me on it
