I thought I was doing the best that I could do by mostly eliminating sugar and starch, drinking water and doing probiotics a day - but the yeast is getting me (and so is the itch!) I have a rx for diflucan, if I begin to take it will I ALWAYS have to take it? Any other non-medicine suggestions??

Any herbal extract that contains berberine. I take coptis, but it's not easy to find.

Well, my LLMD put me on 25 days of Diflucan and then if the yeast is under control, it will maintained by maintenence doses of Nystatin.

If needed Diflucan can be used one or two times a week in a rotating manner.

The way I see it, the yeast is a result of the abx. Hopefully, someday you will be off the abx. and your intestinal flora will go back to normal like everyone else's and you won't need meds like Diflucan and Nystatin, but that is my posititve outlook.

Guess it depends on how long you end up being on abx. and continue having yeast problems.

I can tell you that Diflucan has made my GI tract feel better than it has in over a year.

I swear by oregano oil taken orally. I like North American Herb & Spice's Oreganol capsules. I have their droplets now, but I find it hard to stomach.

It smells delightfully like pizza!

My daughter takes her acidolphillis daily and also takes Olive Leaf extract. She has NEVER had problems with Yeast yet. I thought

she had epstein-barr when I first started doing research. She had a whole mouth full of sores, and down her throat....come to find out it was yeast. SO....during my

research I ran onto something about Olive Leaf Extract killing candida. We tried it to ease the pain of the mouth and throat

sores and it worked. She hasn't had a problem with them since. No yeast either. I can't promise it will work for everyone, but it sure works for her and no sore throat either.

Mornig Chris-

Sorry that yeast has got you. You seem on the right track by reducing sugar and carbs. The carbs need to be replaced with lots of vegtables, mostly green to aid in digestion AND make your PH more alkiline and less hospitable to yeast. Also drink plenty of water to flush everything thru....

Oil of Oregano is what I use if I feel yeasty at all.

Monostat can be used on skin for itching.

Also, this week where was some discussion about a 50/50 vinager/water mixture to be used externally for fungal infections. I have not needed to try this yet, but might rinse my feet in the solution periodically to prevent athletes foot. It is SO humid and wet here.
