I was just precribed this drug...my LLMD told me it is a 3rd generation of Flagyl and has been used in Europe for a long time to treat Lyme. He said he has been recently using it and has really good luck.
He said it does not have the liver problems or neuropathy problems that Flagyl can cause.
Is anyone famailiar with this drug? Am I spelling it right?...I am copying from his prescription.
Thanks.
Judith

I think you're referring to Alinia. My hubby's taking it too. It's an antiprotozoal, but I don't think it's an azole (as both tinidazole and flagyl are). It seems to act more like tinidazole, in terms of side effects -- much less nasty than flagyl, any road, and minimal reports of neuropathy and liver problems.
The hubby has had headaches, fatigue, and weakness on it, but nothing horrendous. It doesn't seem to cause as much depression in him as the tinidazole, although there is some of that.
I believe it is thought to be effective (in conjuction with other drugs) against babesia, too.
