Upon voiding it would open back up and urine would backwash into the kidney, instead of moving on and being eliminated.
This created a risk of bacteria going into the kidney and scaring it. She was on prolonged abx for it (sulfa-based drug).
At age seven she had surgery to repair it.
One of my sons (don't know if he has lyme) was also born with this defect, but his healed without surgery.
I was wondering if anyone else has children with congenital lyme and this defect. It may help me put some pieces together in our family puzzle.
Thanks for any help.

The Urologist thought I had a tumor, but it was scarring from backing up. He said I have a few stones, but they've never bothered me.
He also said I had outpouchings on my bladder, which I think means diverticulosis.
He believed that was congenital.
That's what they think caused it to back up and cause the scarring. The pouches blocked my flow of urine. He was suprised that I never had problems with my pregnancies.
That was many years ago! I don't have any problems now. I wish I could be of more help.
Good vibes coming your way!
Without the edit button it has been a tough day for all on this site. Here is what this part of my post should have said:
I was wondering if anyone has children with congenital lyme and this defect.
By mistake I said:
I was wondering if anyone else has children with congenital lyme and this defect. (I had to take else out, we aren't sure about when it took place).
Now I wonder sometimes if it is congenital as I see my boys having some of the symptoms you all mention, ear infections, aches/pains (I dismiss these as growing pains), rages of anger.
Was your lyme congenital? I see that your urologist says you UT problems were.
Thanks, you are helping.
My kids are adults now, and I'm quite concerned.
Not only for them, but my granddaughter who had trouble wih passing urine. She had strep throat so many times...they removed her tonsils!
I don't know how to help you, other than share my experience.
My llmd says it's possible that I could've had lyme as a child, but we'll never know for sure. So it's frustrating to know if I passed it on to my kids.
I see symptoms in all my kids, but they won't listen!
Two of them had lyme tests, but came back negative.
I doubt if it was a reputable lab because I tested negative three times, until a friend steered me in the right direction.
I don't know what to think anymore, but I have to stop worrying because it does a number on me. They've all been bitten by ticks when they were little.
Good luck, and hope you get the answers you need. I hope I'm making sense. I can't even remember all the things you wrote...so please forgive me if I messed up!

It cannot hurt to check for lyme in my other two children. There is only the temporary discomfort of the blood being drawn.
I was mainly trying to tell if anyone out there has lyme from birth and has kidney reflux as a defect as well, so that I could see if there is a link between the two.
Thanks for taking the time to write. Is your granddaughter still having medical problems?
I am sorry that you are having a difficult time convincing your family to go for further testing. I have been in the situation of having disbelieving family. It hurts.
