I use Custom Probiotics at http://www.CustomProbiotics.com. I am not sure about what is best for children, but if you call them, the owner is very sharp and can probably help you.

Best,

Yogurt. Get a flavor instead of fruit on the bottom. The fruit is sugary.

We use FloraMore by Renewlife. It is formulated for adults. I don't get the pediatric version of it. They do make one.

My daughter takes hers two hours after lunch and two hours past dinner (she takes her antibiotics with lunch and dinner).

The good folks here on lymenet taught us that we should space probiotics out 2 hours before or after antibiotics, so that we will get the best use of it.

I don't know how old your child is, but our ten year old (soon to be eleven), 80 lb. daughter takes two capsules twice a day, for a total of four. I started her out on two, then increased to three, then to four.

I had been told that probiotics could adversely change her bowel habits, either way. So I thought it best to go gradual and not shock her system. I have kept tabs on her, by asking how's everything moving, just to make sure.

So far, so good. I think adding in the yogurt as a regular snack is good too, as Heather has said, the type without a lot of sugar. If you really want to watch the sugar, get plain and add in a little fresh fruit.

Some people use plain yogurt in dips for veggies or on top of baked potatoes instead of sour cream. I haven't tried that one yet. My kids are picky little eaters.

I think they might detect it's distinct tart flavor. I wonder if a ranch packet could give it enough kick to hide it, maybe also add in a little regular sour cream for taste?

How old is the child we are talking about?

Our LLNP told us to experiment with what works for our daughter's digestive system. I think it is a person to person thing, what is tolerated without bad changes in bowel habits.

Hope you find something that works well for you. I know it is frightening thinking of the things that can happen if this part of their health isn't under control. Take care! ivebinlymed2

We give our seven year old Ultra Flora Plus DF by Metagenics. We open one capsule and mix it with plain yogurt or plain applesauce. In either case make sure it is plain with no sugar added. Occasionally we will give her a second capsule in the early evening if she complains of her stomach hurting. Usually one a day seems to work fine and she's been on multiple antibiotics for eight months.
