Hello,

You replied to my post that since my daughter's symptoms came back after being off rocephin for a week is not bacteria die off?

She is being treated by a LLMD...in NJ...too far for us to travel to at this time cause she is so ill...so found one in more of our area that both LLMD's can work together...

Appointment made for next Friday.

I was just wondering IF it could be herxing?

Thanks so much,
Sue

Sue,
A herx occurs as a result of a release of endotoxins during die off of the bacteria. It results in a worsening of symptoms and occurs during abx treatment. While it is possible that some of your daughter's symptoms are the lingering effects of the die-off(herx, the greater liklihood is that the symptoms are evidence that there is still active infection.

My five years of dealing with this disease has taught me that this is a very persistant bacteria that requires multiple courses of multiple antibiotics. Almost always, lingering symptoms means active infection. You really should err on the side of aggressive treatment until she is totally symptom free for several months. If your LLMD doesn't agree with this, I would suggest you find another LLMD.

Sue, whatever you do, don't underestimate this bug. The longer it is allowed to persist in the body, the tougher it is to treat.
