Diagnosed / started treatment January 2004. I am doing MUCH better now.

Presently I am pulsing with tetracycline (2 weeks on / 2 weeks off). It seems that in the last 2 cycles, about 4-5 days after getting off the tetra, I feel like getting the flu (dizzy, cold, throat ache). Is it just that I actually get sick (I am in/out of airplanes all the time, have small children so you know it's easy to get sick) OR can it be a side effect of pulsing? Does anybody have a similar experience?

Thanks,

Tim

In my limited experience pulsing is ususlly 5 days on, 2 off. Or sometimes 4 on, 3 off.

Good question Tim, unfortunately I haven't had any experience with this med, or pulse method, but I'm sure there's some here that do.

Sometimes our Immune System will kick in and start a killing spree after finishing antibiotics.

that might indeed be the case. I had 102 degrees fever last night (the day that I posted this question) and my immune system was working triple overtime (major sweating etc). This morning I feel kind of ok. I have a call into my LLMD though.

Ciao,

Tim

just spoke to my LLMD. He says it's a normal reaction by the immune system, caused by the dead material of the BB. It's called 'blebbing'. It is supposed to get less and less every time you get off the anti-biotics while you do the pulsing.

Here's my theory:

I pulsed my abx too. But I found that
AFter i'd been on abx for an extended period of time, my body seemed to conpensate in it's functioning to include this new everyday substance- (this is aside from the antibiotic properties).. so that if I went off 'cold turkey' my body had to re-adjust, and I would feel like crap during this period. (and some think it's a relapse)

I don't think it has anything to do with bacteria or relapsing at all. Most of the abx we take were not designed to be on for the lenghth of time we take them.

Through trial and error - I found that if I WEANED off the antbiotics, reducing the dose over the course of 3 or 4 days, then I did not feel crappy after stopping them.
So I think it's a compensatory or withdrawal
phenonomen.

Try it - and I'd be interested to see if this works for you - or if it's all just in my mind (the way some people have said..).
