I got the results of my CD57 natural killer cell test today and don't know how to interpret it.
It says In Range 12.
Then it says "The above reported value represents the immunoreactivity in the lymphocyte population as detected by CD45 grating. This population comprises 45% of the non-erythroid nucleated cells."
Is this normal, high, or low? My duck doesn't know how to interpret it either and my LLMD is on medical leave.

I don't know how to interpret it. However, from what I have heard this test didn't meet the great expectation it initially had evoked. Its prognostic value is somehow unreliable.

I think different labs have different scales. Mine was 40 and that was still out of range / low. My LLMD said that a low CD 57 is another indication of Lyme and that Lyme is one of the only things known to date that causes low CD 57.
My CD57 was 79 - that is within the normal range(60 -360) but she thought that was still an indicator. Are there any tests that will definately indicate lyme? All my tests seem to add up to lyme but not one is absolute.

At this time...there are no known difinitive tests for Lyme.
That is why it is a symptom based diagnosis.
Unfortunately...we ahve as a society always thought that the test tells it all...the reasons they are not accurate (mainly false negative) are MANY.
Sorry,
Trout

The CD57 test isn't a test for lyme. It is a test to see if there are enough of a certain type of white blood cell that should be available to fight lyme.
Theoretically the more CD57 cells you have the better your immune system is at working against lyme and thus you may not have to rely on antibiotics as much.

YEs, but the theory is proving to be false. Many of us have had high counts and feel awful. That would be me. I dont have mine here, so I forget the interpretation but I do recall the 60-360 normal range. So yours might be low.
They (Dr. S and others) are still trying to see how exactly to use this test during Lyme treatment and if it is really helpful for anything or not.

Mine CD-57 score was 24.
I tested positive for lyme on the Igenex IGG test.
What should I infer from these tests?

Yeah, my LLMD did this one too.....
I tested as follows:
% CD8 - /CD57+ Lymphs 1 L (limit 2-17)
Abs. CD8 - CD57+ Lymphs 14L (limit 60-360)
How bad is this?

The only thing I gleaned from my LLMD is that it has something to do with how effectively your immune system is working versus a healthy person.
She said that Lyme has a way of exhausting your immune system,
but I wish I knew how bad a low number is. My 1 and 14 are at the bottom of the barrel....

After my daughter completed treatment after her last relapse her count was ZERO. The LLMD was very alarmed and wanted to continue treatment because of it, but we decided against furthur treatment because her symptoms were gone. She had been on so many med's I just couldn't keep shoveling them in so we decided to wait and see. She has remained symptom free to this day and that was 1 1/2 years ago. The LLMD had never seen anyone with a count of zero. We still don't know what it meant but she is still doing OK.
By the way, she was treated with Rifampin after her last relapse and has never relapsed since. Not even one symptom. Just thought I would share that.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
Been There--glad to hear your daughter is doing so well!

Seems like this test shouldn't be taken too seriously as a measure of how we are doing. Better to just concentrate on how you actually feel, I guess....
Have a nice weekend, everyone!

FWIW Dr. S told me that it was important to have the CD57 test done by LabCorp.
