I had to stop ABX because of major diarrhea. I am now feeling good being off abx. The doc said if I wanted to stay off abx it was ok, but if I wanted to go back on give her a call. I am confused! I was on abx for a bit over 30 days, I don't want to have a relapse but I also don't want to struggle with the big D or being on abx if its not necessary. Can someone please help direct me. I am so accustomed to a doc giving me direction, I am not familiar with "well do whatever works". I need to know if I am going to cause myself more damage stopping and starting.

Depending how long you were infected with lyme personaly I would stay on abx's and increase your acidophilis and at least 2hrs before or after abx's.
Eat a real yogurt the kind you stir 2 a day also stay off fast carbs sugary stuff cut bread way back use wheat whole grain if you must.

Hello Crazychris, Whoa- I know that one! I had diarrhea so bad that I developed piles and would bleed after going to the toilet so much. Just awful!!!! It was such a relief (sorry for the pun) to stop taking them...I've tried various abx and so far got the same reaction from them- along with hives. I tried the whole thing of taking probiotics & diet and it didn't make a blind bit of difference to the rushing to the loo! I wouldn't worry about stopping and starting- if you can't tolerate something then just leave it and move on to the next thing.... Have you tried the Salt & vit C protocol?

I wonder if IM abx would be better for you since they skip the gut? A lot of people are having great success with Bicillin L-A, though most if not all are using it in combination with a macrolide. I am also using Artemisinin.
My understanding is that stopping and starting abx with Lyme might be worse than not doing anything because the bacteria will morph and mutate and possibly become more virulent.
Having said that, you are obviously miserable on meds, so you need to do something differently. I wonder if consulting with a naturopath or holistic doc to address the diarrhea issue (probiotics, diet, perhaps figuring out why your system responds this way to abx) would allow you to continue with abx.
I am afraid that I don't have much to offer you, but did want to encourage you to try some options that would allow you to continue abx. Others will be along with better info.
