I would say the pain could be anywhere in the knee.

pain can be from anywhere in your knee.i know.i have become quite knowledgable about my knees in the past 4 years.

i had an open synovectomy almost 3 years ago.my synovial lining was in shreads.orthopedist removed all he could get to,the rest of it.

i am still having a great deal of pain yet.has gotten worse over the years.

had orthoscopic surgery in may.doc scraped as much lyme arthritis off that he could.also ,alot of the pain is bone on bone pain.

i must be treated with iv ax before i am to have a knee replacement..

my advice to you,is to get see a llmd and get on abx as soon as you can.you can avoid the mess i am in.

i am on so much pain medication,half the time i sleep...hope this helps. , gary

Lyme arthritis was probably the most telling symptom I had of this disease. In Feb., my knee simply gave out. Swelled to about three times its size -- swelling that spread into my legs.

Prior to Lyme dx, I had my knee x-rayed and MRIed, examined by some of the top doctors in this area.

They drained it twice and shot it full of cortisone -- a definite Lyme no-no, which I didn't know at the time.

I was in PT for months and also aquatherapy. Only seemed to make things worse,

At the point I was dx, I was walking with a prominent limp, taking daily pain medication and looking into a walker.

That was three months ago. In those three months, with antibiotic treatment, detox foot patches and acupuncture, the swelling has been reduced by about 75%. Today, I actually climbed the stairs like a "normal" person, instead of two feet on one stair (my poor dog gets so impatient with me).

Now, I'm starting to think I'll ultimately regain full use of my knee again...which seemed impossible a short time ago.

As far as location -- mine was so swollen, it was difficult to localize.

Hope this helps. I'm really new to all this and always yield to folks who have a lot more time, experience and knowledge (I'm very Lyme-brained)

When I had knee problems it was both in the bursa area and the back of the knee.
