I have had problems with my right leg, knee on down for two years. I have spells where I cannot walk well and I cannot feel my leg when I walk. This month it got a lot worse. After, some of the feeling came back something new developed. Both feet and calves are cramping-up . . . constantly. I can only wear tennis shoes because my feet will cramp around my shoes? I have a lot of joint grinding and popping. At what point do your legs just quit working? I am so afraid that the next flare-up cause me to be ambilitory. Is there a progression of symptoms or does it just happen? Thank you so much!
PS forgive spelling errors

Are you taking enough magnesium? Lack of Mg can cause cramps.
I took it for a long time with no problem, but then started getting cramps. Doc suggested Mg, which I was already taking. But not enough apparently. Seems to depend on the meds you are taking also. Some require more Mg than others, but not taken at the same time!
Do a search for magnesium in the archives and see what various people have said about types of Mg.

My LLMD recomended Potassium Magnesium Aspartate which has helped me with cramping and spasms.
I still go to work despite needing a walker. I was having spasms while driving which was hurtful not to mention dangerous. Those seem to have subsided.
Good luck.

Hi Laura Take the Mag others have suggested-- also Glucosimine Sulfate for joint repair --about 2000mg a day It really works -I used to crack really bad-extreme pain-- Was the only thing that helped
Also MSM works well--Jay--

If I get cramps in my feet I usually am missing calcium. I take a few tablets and it goes away.
I always take calcium before exercising on pointe.
You may also want to try drinking gatorade (in case your electrolytes are low).

Are you getting pain treatment? It's important that you have a doctor that understands how to control pain you can good enough that you can get better.
Also, I discovered ankle supports help my foot cramping and inflammation. I just use the ones that are like ace bandages that you slip on your feet and ankles.

Thank you for all of the responses! I am headed into town to add mg. to my regiment. I do not take anything for pain as I have just weaned off my muscle relaxers. I had been on them for three years. I might have found a Dr. to treat me. Otherwise, I am doing the herbal thing. I am just still worried about the progression of my leg symtoms. Is this just how it will be or will one day poof it will be gone? At what point do you need assistive devices? Does it sound like that is my fate? Thank you again!

Do you mean that you are using only herbal treatment for lyme? No abx? To be honest, if this is the case and your symptoms are getting worse, maybe it is time to think about abx. If you can find a doctor, that is!

I have been on abx for 18 months and my leg and foot symptoms are considerably reduced. I am also weaning off of muscle relaxers, but that is because I don't need to be on them anymore.

this is a question i struggled with. i used to wonder. but my experience has been it comes and goes depending on you and your treatment. (so does cognitive and neuro with me) 20 years ago i had paralysis that came and went. i was a phys ed teacher. there were times when i could not walk-i would be at one end of the gym and have to change my whole plan because i couldn't get to where i was supposed to be. i would "wing it" until i was able to walk agaqin. i can't believe how often this happened and how long it has gone on. now i know sometimes i am in a wheelchair sometimes on one(or two) crutches), sometimes a cane and sometimes i just walk. (i never run anymore tho) same with my hands -sometimes i can hold my coffee cup...sometimes i leave it on the table and move my mouth to it...
i could never really figure out what helped and what didn't -it never seemed like progression worse or better to me. just all mixed up-excpt as the others said almost everyone needs at least one good heavy duty llmd ordered treatment with abx. i'm guessing without that a downhill progression would be likely.
i also have trouble with cramps -more so as time goes on. dr. b's guidelines suggests a certain brand of mag that is well absorbed...i had to double my dose...i think some have to get it IV.
and i have found over the years that i have to use the purple and white cosamine ds. if i switch to something cheaper i go down hill fast-everytime.
