I was treated for chronic Lyme in the late '90's. PCP never 'believed' nor acknowledged, but symptoms including neurological and emotional besides neuralgia went away. I am having many of the same symptoms now, never know how I will feel day by day, neuralgia has been getting much worse, also weakness. Reflux which I have been treated for years also getting more extreme to point of vomiting. PCP again doubt Lyme. Have been trying to determine whether any relationship between Lyme and gastrointestinal problems? Also, need a new MD who will offer more understanding and medial support. Originally treated by Dr. Donta in Boston but too far and cannot afford now. I live in northeastern Conn.

Oh, yes! Plenty of a connection! Could also be a coinfection like bartonella.

Hubby's 1st symptoms were nausea/vomiting/dry heaves and a Parkinsonian tremor. G.I. issues continue -- I am pretty sure the Lyme and/or babesia are affecting his vagus nerve which controls the stomach.
Clinically diagnosed by Dr B on Long Island with bartonella due to chronic gastritis diagnosed by 2 endoscopies. Bringing up an article on bartonella for you.

Thank you to both Lymetutu and Bea Seibert. I have been having tremors in my hands and for the first time in my life, I have been stuttering. The problem is that my Lyme test came back negative. If I know my doctor, he will believe the test and not me. But I appreciate knowing that at least in the case of your husband, Bea, gastorintestinal problems were confirmed as related to tick-borne illness.

I had reflux almost from the get-go, and it was a constant companion of mine. Hope that helps some, and good luck!

I have had gastro issues for sure. At one point I believe it invaded my upper throat area, because I was having issues swallowing.
It wasn't hard to swallow, but more like an constant itch in my throat that made me want to try and swallow...like a pill was stuck or something. I did have an endoscopy done...which my Gastro said was negative for any issues.
Very Frustrating.
My gastro issues seemed to go away as soon as I started Doxy though...imagine that!

Karin....make sure you get tested through Igenex. and find out which test and which lab your dr used.
The ELISA test is very inaccurate. You have about a 40% chance that it will show negative.
The Western Blot is nearly useless if a good lab was not used. Of course, your dr has confidence in the lab he is using. But....
