Hello ---(daughter Alisha Lyme for 4 years and doing really well for the last 9 months but now----) Daughter Alisha has had the Big D for 8 weeks now. She is 20 1/2 now and too shy to come on here and beg for help. She is in college now but had a Lyme bloom and went on Doxy IV thru Mediport for 2 weeks . Worked Great for her!!! But bEFORE - during and after the doxy--- urgency Diarrhea (even on Lotronex and Immodium for 8 weeks cannot get under control. Gastro Doc does not believe in Lyme and says the Lotronex will work and that's all he's got !! Poor kid ---- seeing new Female Gastro on the 14th but wondered if anyone had been on Lotronex and Immodium combo or has been thru something like this?? Thanks so much --- Denise (MOM)miamilady

I think your question just got overlooked. I would bet 50% of the posters on this site have had problems with diarrhea. Antibiotic induced diarrhea is caused by the antibiotics killing off the good guys as well as the bad guys.

Even if you take acidophilus and bifido bacteria this can still happen. She probably has an overgrowth of candida or other bad G.I. bacteria such as Klebsiella.

Hubby always stops antibiotics temporarily when this happens. S. boulardi is a good yeast supplement which may help. Other natural things to try are oregano oil capsules or olive leaf extract. Prescription meds may also be needed -- nystatin, diflucan, nizoral or flagyl are just a few of the choices.

I would call her LLMD.

Diarrhea like this can cause worse problems if it is not corrected. Here is a link to another thread about leaky gut syndrome that will explain all this in more detail
