Hi:

Well, a week into Biaxin/Plaq. combo and some of my latest symptoms have calmed down BUT, besides the usual side-effects like metallic taste, yuk [Eek!] I've got a new one....my tongue is inflamed in spots almost like cold sores without the sores!

Anybody else ever experience this on this combo and did you figure out which one was causing it?

Also, was there anything that gave you relief?

Thx,
Dave

Could it be yeast?

Hi Dave,

I have been on Plaquenil for a while and didn't get anything like coldsores from it, never took Biaxin for lyme..only Zithromax.

If it is yeast try some plain sugar free yogurt..maybe it will help?
I did get a very sore redish tongue from yeast once...ouch.

Hope you find out exaclty what it is and feel better soon. [Smile]

Yeah....I thought about the yeastie, beasties but, I've never had a problem with that on previos treatments and I take a TON of probiotics. So i don't know....plus there's no white coating or anything.

Also, it started right after I started the combo last week and that's after 8 months on tetra with nary a problem like this.

Sounds like a side effect of the meds more than yeast. Definitely check with the doc on this.

Could it possibly be an allergy? Allergic reactions to abx can cause inflammation of the throat that gets dangerous very quickly. I'd call a pharmacist ASAP just to check.

Dave,
I get small invisible points on my tongue that sting, especially to touch, when I ease up on B12. I use B12 shots, plain cyanocobalamin, because it's convenient and cheap. It works every time. Sublingual might work but I have not tried it. Just a thought. Good luck.

Hi Mr. CT,

I've been on biaxin 8 months and w/ Plaquenil 6 months. I need to add an antiviral becuase things started to get a little weird and embarrassing.

Sounds like a yeast issue I had. Killed it with garlic cloves daily (nuked for 35 seconds) and kept away with acidophilus. Had it pretty bad once to the point of mouth rinsing with hydogen peroxide and diluted clorox - Accck. [bonk]
