I am wondering if anyone has become intolerant or allergic to antibiotics?
I was seeing a LLMD 2 years ago, and was diagnosed clinically, was put on biaxin/flagyl, and responded miraculously. I herxed to near death, but started to come around by month 3. I have had lyme about 15 years, untreated.
Did the antibitoics for about 15 months, did have a break inbetween, went off them for 2 months to treat candida, lyme came back, and so went back on antibiotics, and again, responded very well.
I went off antibiotics, 5 months ago to rife, and was doing ok, but then rife stopped working.
Now, about 1 month ago I went back on antibiotics to see if they would work, and they did, but then by day 12 on them, I started to become allergic to my probiotics, my garlic, sicker from the sun, sicker from everything, and I started to have my heart race, so much so I thought I was going to die, throat react in an allergic way, thought it was herxing, stopped antibiotics, for 2 days, then resumed at a lower dose, and almost died on them. Switched antibiotics, to biaxin, same thing. Then to Keflex, same thing.
My LLMD is very very busy, and would have to drive downn to see him, and will do this, but not sure if he is going to help me, drive takes 6 hours return about.
Has anyone become reactive to antibiotics? Maybe it indicates something else, like babesia?
Nothing is working for me, and I am tired of all this BS, 2 years of treating and now this... 15 months of antibiotics, then rife, and still sick... now cannot tolerate antibiotics and wonder why.
Seriously feel like taking my life am so sick of this BS.
I tried herbals for lyme, nothing, now my last thing is the Artemissin, see how this does... I was stunned at my reaction, my immune system reacting like this to antibiotics this time.

I can relate to your dilemma. I am allergic to so many ABX, it's ridiculous. It's not just ABX, either. So far, I've logged 14 drugs to which I'm allergic or intolerant for some other reason (like arrhythmia). And I have such a sensitive stomach (even with meds for that). I'm having trouble with an oral protocol now. And I'm not even on the full protocol yet.
I've been sick for 20 years, and I have had lousy, incomplete treatment prior to this.
I would get sicker and sicker with Rife.
Well, that was for validation. Now, how to weather this?
I am taking Zyrtec daily to prevent allergic reactions. I am also taking Zantac (which isn't just for the stomach, but allergies, too). So far, so good. You may want to ask for an H1 drug (antihistamine) and H2 drug (like Zantac or Pepcid).
We must hang on to hope. I've been giving myself this same lecture, just today, as a matter of fact. There must be some way we can get the help we need. And we're not alone. I do find comfort in this.
Maybe a build-up in toxins is what caused this for us. I tried generic Questran. It didn't help me, but it helps so many others. Maybe you could try that. Others may have other detox ideas.
I wish you so much luck in finding something tolerable.

I don't have any answers to your situation -- only to agree with Steph -- that you're definitely NOT alone.
This is a time you need the support of all of us here. I'm really glad this board exists; otherwise, I'd never be able to understand all the weird things that have been happening to me.
I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

FWIW, taking probiotics close in time with ceftin produced severe g.i. symptoms, cold sweat, generalized weakness in me; my legs were giving out from under me, and, standing in a doorway at the top of a flight of 4-5 steps, i pressed my arms out against teh door jam to help myself step backward to get away form teh stair-well. I thought i was gonna die.
i was so neuro'd out that i forgot the phamacist's forboding tone, in her caveat to stagger the intake of probiotics and ceftin by 4 hours.

Sounds like a serum allergy; which is the worst kind.
You might want to start reading about detoxification. I saw a doctor in Ohio and he put me on Antitox, which helped immensely. Seriously, I would read everything I could find on detoxing and do everything you can before these reactions get much worse.

I agree with Nancy-OH. Also I've heard some people have been desensitized to abx. Sorry don't have more info on it. Maybe it will jog the memory of folks who know more about this?

Then...Russian Choice Immune....been having 'super herxes on it myself.
You sound toxic...and the suggestion of H1 and H@ histamine bloickers...very wise...very.

Oh wow.... something just clicked.
I too have had a similar reaction as far as abx goes. Last year was on all different orals and 3 different IV abx. No significant herx or reactions.
NOW, I can't touch even a small dose of anything without herx (significant pain, weakness, etc.). Doc said it was due to toxin buildup. I've been trying foot patches and other things to try and detox but to no avail.
Recently I had some bloodwork done and the Absolute Eosinophils was HIGH and out of range. Doc asked me if I have allergies. No! I do not. (You could shove ragweed, grass, and anything else you can think of in my face all day long and I wouldn't react in the slightest).
Apparently this blood test coming out high either means allergies or parasites. I asked doc what kind of parasites. She shrugged and said could be any of hundreds.
I'm going to try an antihistamine like Starphoenix said and see if it helps! Would Benadryl be good enough, or should I try my son's Zyrtec??
