I was just curious if anyone took pain meds to help get through the day?I have tried Ultracet (sp) I will not take again.

I felt like I was in space! I've taken darvacet, etc, all the cet families but I won't take that one again....... Live and learn.
Thanks
Annette

Annette honey -

I take a pain pill with my MORNING meds -- just to keep on top of the pain - to keep it from getting out of control....sort of like a pre-emptive 'strike'!

I find if I do that I will have less pain later, and will therefore need to take less.

When you first start taking pain meds, they can often kick your butt - so you have to keep looking and asking until you find something that will help with the pain - yet not 'knock you out' or make you a loopy idiot. [dizzy]

As you continue with pain meds however, most people tend to become more tolerant of them - either needing to take MORE of the same med - or switch to a different med.

Good luck finding what works for YOU.

Annette,

Yes, but none of the narcotics worked for my pain. I guess it depends on your type of pain. I have bad nerve pain. I have found that clonazapam is helping a little (also take topomax at bedtime), so I take it as soon as I get up, 3 times daily. Just masking the pain, but allowing me to live and not want to give in to the pain.

Annette,

I responded to your other posting. But I have a question. How long did you try Ultracet? If you tried it once, then I would give it another shot. It sometimes takes a few times to get used to a pain medication. If you took it multiple times, then it's not right for you.

Before I was diagnosed with Lyme and viruses, I took pain meds (Ultracet) just to ease the pain and stiffness. They don't seem to work for me anymore.

Now I take a very low dose of Oxycodone (Percoset) 7.5. I've read on another forum where people are taking 20 and 30 but that would put me in la-la land. [spinning smile]

First thing in the morning I only take 1/2 a tablet because it is stronger on an empty stomach.

Herxing really, really makes me need the meds more. I use to only use them in the afternoon.

Another thing pain meds do for me is help me be able to do house cleaning and normal chores. Otherwise, I just can't get up the energy to do it.

Hope this helps.

I just last week went to a pain dr for the first time. He actually BELIEVED me.
Rx'd Methadone tablets for everyday and Lortab for breakthru pain -
I am learning how best to take it as what was prescribed is a bit too much. However, the 3rd day I woke up in the morning pain-free, with energy and I thought:
A-HA! THIS is what normal feels like! I hadn't experienced "normal" in over 30 years, so it was great.

The only pain med that I take is Ibuprofen. Usually about 1200mg per day (not all at once though) sometimes more sometimes less. It's the only way I can make it through the day.

I have issues with swelling (high sed rate) and this seems to help.

Hope you find something as the days become very long otherwise.

I take tramadol just once a day (at night for pain). Found out the hard way there are two different types of tramadol: one that left me throwing up and completely unable to think or function.

The other which seems much less...horrible...and has a buffering thing in it.

If the pain gets nasty during the day (like today) I try to stick it out. If it gets worse, I take several ibuprofen. If it's really unbearable, I have tramadol...but that's only happened once or twice.
