Last night I had a few sips of wine, which I haven't done for a few weeks. A little while later, my body was shaking, I was more anxious than usual, and was breathing heavy. I could only fall asleep after taking a melatonin. The only thing new that I've been taking is Cordymax, which I started taking 1-1/2 weeks ago.
I am ok now.
Anyone have a clue as to what happened?

Looks like your body chemistry can't handle the meds you are taking when you add alcohol.
Lots of Lyme patients have severe reactions to alcoholic drinks and most antibiotics and many other medicines are given with warnings against consuming any alcohol.

I believe it was a herx. Alcohol is known to kill bacteria. You will see in old movies how they used to put whiskey on wounds. Same therory. Why do you think there is mostly alcohol in mouthwash? When you drink it, it gets into the blood stream and then the brain... Who knows.
When I did drink wine (prior to treatment) I got a headache immediately, and a red face. I would get tremors, muscule twitching, etc. Eventually I would like to be able to have an occasional glass of wine again. But not until I am better.
Also it could have been a reaction to the other drugs your taking.

I am amazed that 2 sips could do that much, and still wonder why it didn't happen before, I probably have a couple of sips of something about once a month, have been on lots of meds for a year.

I remember that late in my disease processes, before diagnosis, I would have wine and get pain in the back of my neck.
Alcohol can make Lyme go crazy!

Hi all,
Just another thought to add. Those symptoms you describe sound very similar to symptoms I've been known to have...and it has nothing to do with alcohol. Many wines contain sulfites, and I get those symptoms from ingesting them.
Like I said, just a thought.

I understand what you are thinking. I thought the same thing too. (proir to treatment)
My husband and I have made homewines for years. I thought also that the sulfites were to blame. We made some wine without any sulfites in it. I got the same response.

I made the mistake of drinking a couple of margaritas over the labor day weekend. Pushed me over the systematic yeast edge.

Sweet Pea...I have noticed odd reactions to alcohol as well. I've noticed that I can handle beer just fine...but not as much as I used to...
...and Heather I find your comment interesting, because when I have margarita or two, I have a really bad reaction...and the next day is BAD....and yes, it was just two
