Hello Everyone:

My doctor put me on amoxycycline this summer becasue of the problem with doxy and the sun. The amoxy appears to have done absolutley NOTHING. My symptoms appear to me to be getting worse.

Does anyone have any experience with this abx?

I have had Lyme for five years. It took me 3 years to get rid of it originally. Then I was symptom free fro two years, until this year.

I am very fortunate to have a mild case of the disease, and this most recent bout is even less severe than the first. I have only mild pain and moderate fatigue. But I am getting scared because I am developing arthritis in my fingers.

I've asked my doctor to switch me but she is erratic and stubborn. I cannot switch doctors becasue I have no insurance and I have never tested positive for the disease.

Whatever help you all can give -- most appreciated.

Thanks,
Loren

I personally get a better resuly with Augmentin...I dont know why but it could have something to do with the potassium clavulate in it.

I have had too much trouble getting to a "theraputic" dose of Ammox.

Hi there,

Just to correct you, its AmoxiCILLIN. The other was DoxyCYCLINE. Its confusing, I know. Well, what dose of Amoxicillin are you taking and how often? What other antibiotics are you on?
Your doses may not be high enough, and you probably never got rid of it to begin with. Aggresive treatment is important. I can't stress enough how essential it is to have a doctor who is familiar with Lyme disease treatment. A run of the mill family doctor usually has no idea what they are doing. Where are you located? I have improved a lot after Amoxicillin but not in doses prescribed by some Ducks such az 2 or 3 g per day. I have started from 4.5 g per day and increased it slowly over weeks to 27 g per day. After each dose increase I had a terrible herx.

Today I also take Ketek, Metronidazol and Plaquenil and have only one symptom left. I hope for full recovery within the next months.

Previosly I was sick for 6 years and there was time I put my things in order as I saw end of my life approaching.

Minocycline is just as good as Doxy, without all the side effects. In my opinion.

It crosses the BBB, and hits most co-infections.
