I'm taking so many harsh meds, and I've been having frequent nausea, sometimes severe. I don't want to add yet another med, and I'm already taking Aciphex and Zantac.
I know that the med group suggests ginger capsules. I always thought that using ginger for nausea would be inferior. Well, it works!
I got Chinese food tonight: steamed chicken, veggies, and brown rice. (Office allows brown rice, even on the yeast diet.) It came with ginger sauce, which included a nice slice of the stuff. I was nervous.
Well, it helped! I did have some of what I'll just call "agida," and I had a little sourness, but I didn't have the ol' "think I'm gonna vomit" episodes, or anything near that.
I have to go to the health store tomorrow.

Here's a tip. I drink tea in the AM with lemon in it for my liver and to help alkalanize my body. I have started adding a nice slice of fresh ginger to the cup. It just drops to the bottom and stays there while I sip the tea. It has really helped with the nausea.
You can add fresh ginger to tea all day long with no adverse effects. Fresh is best.

I'm so glad you mentioned that. Someone had given me a recipe where you peel and grate a lot of ginger, put it in zip-lock bags, flatten it and freeze it.
Then they baked sweet potatoes, peeled them, added olive oil and broke off a piece of ginger and mixed it all together.
ONly I didn't like it at all. So now I have all this ginger in the freezer.

If you don't want to mess with the fresh ginger, just add 1/2 teaspoon of powdered ginger (spice) to a cup of warm water and sweeten with stevia.
Don't try this if you have gastritis as it may burn.
Ginger is also an anti inflamatory and the tea before bedtime may help with sleep.

I realize, also, that from a practical standpoint, fresh or powdered ginger would be better than capsules. I have little moola.
With the slices, do I just refrigerate them? How long would they keep?

fresh giger root will last a long time in fridg. Here is a concoction i have come up with that helps me: A lg slice of giner root,a couple of parsley sprigs ,a few fennel seeds. :steep in pepperment tea 15 minets.Helps for nausa .Will hold me for a while. best wishes dana

Ginger helps me too. They actually make Ginger altoids which are great for nausea! They have a wee bit of sugar in them though. I actually just chew on raw ginger root, sounds nasty, but you get used to it. I make my own tea too. Have you tried adding Carafate? It helps coat the belly lining. happy tea!!! I take ginger capsules, but I have also found that aloe juice helped my stomach when I was on oral antibiotics. Aloe tastes nasty, so I mixed it in with juice.

WC: I decided to get fresh ginger. I'd like to eat a bit before each dose of ABX. I also got lemon-ginger tea.
Ginger altoids? No kidding!
I can't take Carafate because of med-absorption issues.
Robi and Hiker: I can't imagine stomaching aloe juice. Ew! I'm glad you find it helpful. I use aloe gel on my face. Too bad it doesn't absorb.

Lemon Ginger tea. I just boil water and add lemon juice and a piece of ginger. Much cheaper than buying the tea bags and it works just as well for the upset tummy.
Lemons: I buy organic lemons, when I can find them and they are a decent price. Cut them up ito single use pieces, throw in a bag and freeze. When I want one I whack the bag on the side of the counter and take out as many as I think I will use in a couple of days.
If you remember to take the bag out of the freezer a hour or so after first putting it and seperate the pieces that have started to ice together they wont all freeze in a lump.
I buy organic lemon juice at the health food store in a 16oz bottle and freeze it in ice cube trays. One ice cube is good for several cups of tes, for me. It says 2tbls. is equal to one whole lemon. It lasts a long time at a good price.

Im also the one who makes the sweet potato, ginger, coconut oil mix. Im not fond of it but I have to take my early morning abx with food and cant handle getting up to do it so I mix up about 1/3 to 1/2 a cup and put i in a small cooler by my bed.
I dont even turn on the light to eat it and take my pills.
I cant handle anything I have to chew and this I can just swallow. It was getting harder and harder to get down so last night I added a small amount of almond butter to help mask the taste and it was much easier to swallow.

I see a doctor here in nyc who is famous for vitamin therapy where i buy a bottle of liquid ginger.
I don't know where he gets it but i take a tbsp before every meal.
