My doctor sent me a report about an anti fungal called Diflucan. It appears to be an effective treatment of Lyme. The side effects can be nasty, though.
I was just wondering if anyone has tried this therapy and if so, how they fared.

This is a new area of study, Azoles and Lyme disease. I was on Diflucan for 6 months, and many other times in between tried it and other Azoles, didnt touch the lyme, but deflated the gut yeast. Works well for yeast! Posted by shadow13 (Member # 1467) on :
Hi Vicki - I've been on Diflucan when I was on antibiotics especially heavy-duty IV's, but it was only meant to help take care of the yeast. I've never heard of it as a treatment for Lyme. I also didn't have any bad side-effects while I was taking it.

I was on diflucan months ago to get rid of yeast. I had ALOT of side effects, but now I wonder if it was a herx with lyme, if they say it can be used to treat lyme. I got really bad nausea, upset stomachs, and my hair pulled out a bit. Even on a reduced dose, my hair was coming out and the other symptoms were bad, so they stopped it.
I would probably be willing to try it again, starting at a low dose if a LLMD said it was something I needed, but have a backup plan.

I was put on it when I had a sore throat that did not respond to antibiotics. Turns out it was yeast (it never came up into my mouth like thrush or anything).
When I took it for that I felt sooooo much better!!! I have been on it for 4 months now and panick if I have to be off of it.
I am not that great about my diet, so maybe it is just treating the yeast. I also use Threelac for yeast and although it is expensive it helps me tremendously!
After being out of the Threelac and sleeping all last weekend, my box came the end of the week and I got half my basement cleaned today!!!!! Coincidence?....maybe! Ask me if I care. I will NOT run out again!
The Diflucan and Threelac also got rid of my bloated stomach! Yeah for small miracles!

My llmd prescribed it for lyme. Been on it for four months. No side-effects that I notice and blood work shows liver values fine.

What dosage is everyone taking?
My LLMD has had me on 100 mg./day for 7 months. He did try to up it to 200 mg/day but I didn't tolerate that dosage so I am back on 100mg.

I've been on Diflican and Ceftin for 3 months. I get really sick from the Diflican. I can only take it for so long and then I feel really sick and have to back off of it for a couple of days. I herx much more from the Diflican then I do from the Ceftin.

This post is interesting to me. For the past 3 months I have been on a low dose of colloidal silver without other antibiotics. I decided to do this to get a sense of what symptoms were what as I had surgery in June with a rough recovery. (Appendectomy with partial colectomy.)
Recently when I had a flare of symptoms after taking ONE dose of cholestryramine (with sugar), (ie.: sores in mouth, sick feeling) I decided that I needed to add Diflucan and Nystatin back into my regimen. I reasoned that this would also confirm that this was a yeast problem.
The Nystatin works without any noticable side effects, but the Diflucan causes such a herx that I can only take 1/2 a pill every week! Is it due to Lyme or Yeast? That is the BIG question. Of course the Diflucan is systemic and the Nystatin is limited to the g.i. tract.
Just 3 months ago after a surgery I was able to take a whole pill of Diflucan every day.
I've read the posts about the possibility that Diflucan may work for Lyme. Does it? Or does yeast get so sequestered that it takes months of therapy after being treated for LD with all the antibiotics? Experts on candidiasis say if you've been treated with even one broad spectum antibiotic you could be predisposed to yeast.
How can we know?
I am going to continue to attemp ramping up on the Diflucan until I can take a tablet a day and stay on it for a few months.
Of course the other possibility is that I have developed a sensitivity to Diflucan, but I don't think so.

I don't believe Diflucan does anything for Lyme....just my opinion. They found that people with Lyme improved while taking Diflucan.
HELLOOOOO!!!! Most Lymies have yeast problems!!!! Many had yeast problems before taking abx!! [I did!] So it makes perfect sense that the Diflucan will make you feel better.

I tend to agree with you! Prior to LD I had been on ATB's for sinus infections. One Dr. would "slam" me with Decadron or Celestone every time. I was a BIG carb eater, had developed a heavy middle...(I'm skinny now!)
I believe the thing that finally laid me flat was such a load of yeast my body couldn't handle it. There were other things also.
My husband and I tore down an old church and there was mold and dust inside...black mold. Oh, what I did to my body!
Anyway, how are you Lymetoo?

I've been on diflucan 6-7 months; NO side effects. Not sure if it is helping or not.
Sure I have yeast, but never treated it except for vaginal yeast.
