Plaquenil? Nystatin? ABX?

I have to work fish-oil capsules into my med schedule properly, and I have to take both meds and the fish oil with food.

Anyone know of an interaction?

I want to know too. Im doing it cuz my gp wants me to take mega amounts to help lower my cholesterol. The only way I can do that is take it 4 times a day.

My rational is that fish oil is essentially just fish so its a food. Some brands of fish oil had all kinds of vitamins and stuff added to it so some of the additives could potentially be a problem. Try to find something that is just fish oil.

I don't know. I'm taking flax seed oil.

Hmm. I guess it's okay. I have to take it more than once per day, and I cannot take it without some kind of meds. I take meds all the live long day! Somehow, I think you understand. [Wink]

The instructions say that I should take the capsules with a full meal, and I have to take most meds with meals, or it would be Hurl City. [puke]

Does anyone know why some lists of recommended supplements for Lyme say not to use flaxseed oil? I think that's in Dr. B's diagnostic hints, but wouldn't swear to it.

I don't use much flaxseed oil, but I put a couple of tbs of ground flax seed in cranberry juice every day and feel virtuous!

I can't figure out why evening primrose would be fine, but flaxseed would be a no no.

Anyone?

Hi, Lesley.

I know that Dr. B warns against flaxseed oil, but I don't know why. Hopefully, someone can demystify this for you.

Overall, flax is healthy, but I've been told that for inflammation and mood, fish oil is key. I think you'd get a better bang for your buck with fish oil. It's the EPA and DHA in it that's beneficial.

There are some good brands out there. I don't know if my suggesting one would be, well, suggestive here! Against rules. You can email me if you want more information.

I haven't found a fish oil product I can tolerate. What do you guys take?

I think dr B says not to take flaxseed oil....but then he also says aspartame is OK...go figure.

The one I like the best is by Carlson
Finest Fish Oil Liquid Omega 3

Its a liquid but has a slight lemon taste. Its great on your salad, sprinkled on a few cooked green beans mixed with a tad of almond butter etc.

They also make gel caps but gel caps are always made with a beef product and who know where the source of that is.

Every site I went to said Carlson is the best and safest.

Im not taking it cuz it has vit e and my doc says no vit e right now so Im taking
Nutraceutical Science Institute
Mega EFA Omega-3 EPA & DHA its a gel cap
purchased at Vitacost for a decent price

I take 4 a day and they are strong anyway. I have no problem with after taste or burping up fish taste afterwords like I did with cheap brands.

Both these brands treat and check for no mercury and all the potential bad stuff.

Lymetoo: My Lyme psychiatrist recommended two brands to me. One is a gel you take on a spoon (it tastes like St. Joseph's baby aspirin!), and one is a capsule.

The gel is Coromega. I know you can get it reasonably at Vitacost.com. I couldn't take it for long, though, due to an allergic reaction to an additive.

I now take OmegaBrite. It is a wonderful capsule product, no fishy burps. It contains Kosher gelatin/glycerin and Vitamin E. I have had no problems with it, and I am Miss Intolerable when it comes to meds/supplements! [Big Grin]

If you keep the capsules in the freezer and take them frozen you won't have to deal with the smell. Best with food. I am blessed with a strong stomach, but if I taken the frozen capsule alone it gives me tummyfreeze. (Kind a good cheapthrill for the homebound)

Not sure what your toleration problem is or if this would help...

My llmd has me take fish oil capsules with my mepron as the "fatty food" for absorption. I also take ceftin & zith.

I take Nordic Naturals Omega3 capsules.

Regarding flaxseed oil, folks with compromised health have a hard time converting it to the usable form is my understanding. Fish oil, on the other hand is readily available for the body to use.

I take Fisol (Nature's Way). It's enteric-coated to withstand stomach acid. Bottle says, "Fisol dissolves in the small intestine to maximize absorption of Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids."

Don't know if your tolerance problem is the stomach, but maybe this stuff could be a solution.

Does anyone take Fisol and have an opinion as to whether it's any good? I have no idea.

I get my fish oil capsules from GNC. (I call them "fish guts"!)

I know you have to be careful if you're taking fish oil with other things like Evening Primrose Oil, which my gyn recommended, and garlic, and NSAIDs, because they all make you prone to bruising and bleeding. I had to stop ALL of them after a horrendous nasal hemmorhage that sent me to the ER.
