I developed a yeast infection on my penis and was prescribed Ketconazole. I was on rocephin for 4 weeks and my pcp didn't tell me about probiotics.
For the last 2 weeks I wasn't on any ABX but since Thursday I've been on 1500 mg per day of Tetracycline and I now have a yeast infection on my groin.
I now take plenty of probiotics and I'm wondering if I continue with the Ketconazole can I continue with antibiotics?
thanks john

Yes, as long as they don't interact with Ketconazole. Use google and check them.

Don't know but should mention... You might need more than Ketconazole if that yeast infection went systemic and you have nuerological sx. Flucanazole is the only oral antifungal that crosses into the brain AFAIK. It's MUCH cheaper now. Costco's tend to have good deals on larger rx's of generic flucanazole.

Sorry to hear the yeasties have got you.
A low sugar/carb diet is a must for good yeast control. This would be no sugar/honey etc or white flour in any form. Potatoes and white rice would be out too. After you get the yeast under control, perhaps you will be able to tolerate small amounts of whole grains and fruit.
Keeping your body at a more alkiline ph is important too. This would mean a diet high in vegtables, especially green ones. So when you reduce your sugar and carb intake replace them with vegtables. A little lemon juice in your water is good too.
Keep taking your probiotics and perhaps a systemic yeast control product might be needed. Ask your doctor.

I spoke to my LLMD today and he says it's could be a herx and not a true yeast infection.
Also, if you look up systemic yeast infection on webmd is says you get them through an IV site or a urinary cathader (spelling).
My LLMD says if you get yeast in your blood line you usually on have a couple of days before it's critical.
I guess my question is can you develope a systemic yeast infection from antibiotics?

Yes, you can develop systemic yeast from antibiotics. I did and I finally stopped the antibiotics, because I couldn't deal with both at the same time.

ask any GP and he/she will also say this is the only way you can get yeast. They're incorrect!

ABSOLUTELY YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You need to take something for the internal and the external yeast. Get it cleared up, and then maintain by taking probiotics everyday. I also recommend Nystatin daily...but sounds like your dr doesn't believe in such things...???

My doctor called in an rx of diflucan? any info on it? anyone been on it?

Diflucan is the brand name for fluconazole. Many of us are on it. It is recommended you get regular blood tests to check liver function while on it, because it can be heavy on the liver. But I've been on it for over a year with no problems.
I recommend the book The Yeast Connection by William Crook. It's a great book, that explains yeast and how to help eradicate it.

Can you take Diflucan while on antibiotics? I had taken it before after a round of antibiotics but never at the same time? I take probiotics 2hours after doxy and that seems to be working. Any input I appreciate. Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

Sure! Lots of Lymies do just that! I have done so MANY times. Right now I'm off abx, but I continue the Diflucan as needed.

With some ABX like Doxy, it is better to take Nystatin than Diflucan. I take Nystatin 4 times a day on an on-going basis, take anti-fungal preps, garlic raw, and probiotics. See my site for all of my treatment and full supplement list. Best

I use nystatin, also, because I am terribly allergic to Diflucan. I take two three times per day. It's good for the gut, but it does not go systemic.
I'm having an issue elsewhere, and I was told that I can use oregano oil as needed (orally). I have some in a dropper than can be added to water (strong in pure form). I've taken capsules before, too. It will go systemic, apparently, and it is a powerful anti-infective overall.
