Just got my hormone testing back and was very low on my dhea and my testosterone. It sounds like dhea can control you testosterone?

I did just end 6 1/2 months of prednisone about a month prior to testing. Would this have a big impact on the results??

Would love anyone's opinion.
Thanks,
Nut

I WAS taking DHEA. Thanks for reminding me to go buy more! Yes, it can help with testosterone, which you need. I think DHEA can help prevent cancer too. Don't have any studies for you...sorry.

I don't know about the prednisone...but seems possible that it could screw things up!

Predn royally F-up my endocrine system so I'm not surprised. I'm taking DHEA, Synthroid + Cortef to try to get things back to where they were. How ironic; I'm using a steroid to repair the damage done by steroids.

I found an MD whose Lyme friendly and has adept at endo issues.

I have used DHEA for about a year now along with other hormones, and I don't know if it does anything for me or not.

My LLMD said to continue it, though, so I will.

When taking so many herbs/suppl, plus hormones for estrogen and thyroid, it's really hard to tell which works and which doesn't!!!

Lymetoo, glad to hear it can maybe prevent cancer. That's a plus.

low dhea is an indicator that you are getting poor sleep...

I've been on DHEA for about 3 years now because my numbers were low. I feel better on it. It has raised my testesterone, energy, stamina and libido.

However, it really didn't make a difference until months into abx treatment. The lyme infection had to be addressed first.

Also, transdermal application worked better for me than oral.

Under my LLND's watch I've used pregnenelone (sp) + DHEA. Pulse on and off these as your body feels is good for you.

Not miracle drugs, but tonic for my tired body.

I experienced negative reactions to prednisone. In 1998 I reluctantly spread pred cream on my EM - per MD's advice. The EM disappeared but new rashes appeared over 3x times more skin in other places. Adding insult to injury, in 1999 an I.D. Dr. alleged my "generalized" rashes were cause to rule out Lyme.

In 1997 when too weak to drive I let my HMOneuro administer IV prednisone over 3 days. I felt like a tank had run over me. After that I became too weak to roll over in bed and felt so sick I wondered why I wasn't dead.

Can you get the DHEA over the counter?

Contraindications?

You can get DHEA anywhere--it will cause acne or grow a hair on your chin if your a girl because it increases your testosterone. My doc says when you get acne--back off on the dose.

I would be careful about using DHEA without an MD's monitoring. There are blood tests to make sure you don't take too much. I did and it made me nuts.

I strongly agree with Foggy, get an MD to monitor.

Thanks for all the good info.

My PCP is going to monitor my blood every few months. My urine showed that I had
I am not excited about the possibility of extra hairs growing on my face as I already have that problem. And it's a good thing I'm on mino to combat the acne.

Good to know to back off a little when I see those things though. Thanks!

Hi there,

I've been taking DHEA for about a year now. Last couple of months bumped up to 50mg a day.

My levels were low so per LLNP's advice started taking a dose daily.

I haven't noticed any adverse reactions.
