I have fasciculations and the first thing my primary doc did was test my magnesium, potassium and calcium levels because apparently a deficiency of any of these can cause muscle fasciculations. Well my levels all looked good so should I still consider taking magnesium? I guess I don't understand why that would help if my levels are fine. Do you people that are taking magnesium test low in your magnesium level? Does lyme have an effect on magnesium levels in one's body? Thanks everyone!

Magnesium testing is not accurate, because it is difficult to test intracellular Mg levels.

Don't know the science of it, but a lot of lymies have Mg deficit and are benefitted by taking a supplement.
I can tell a big difference when not taking enough, have horrible muscle cramps. Have heard others say it helps with twitches too.
Try it. See if it helps. Might do a search to see which most people use. I use the more expensive magtab at night, which is extended release and gets me thru the night. I use the less expensive stuff in the morning.

There is an excellent book on the importance of Magnesium.
"The Miracle of Magnesium" by Carolyn Dean M.D. Amazon has it....
Diet can cause a magnesium deficiency by depleting magnesium.. It is very difficult to "test" for the proper levels as they are constantly changing...
This is an extremely important mineral for the body. It is needed by the immune system and other functions. This is a "must read" book...

Testing serum levels reveals little because the body does all it can to keep the blood in a state of homeostasis. Red blood cell testing is of more value.
