I have posted something similar to this before, but I'm having a really tough time with my mental state of mind right now and I need help!
Please bare with me...
Had Lyme in 1993 (treated oral 60 days) and relapsed in 1997 (treated oral and IV for 1 year).
July 2005 I became ill again. Most of the same symptoms as before (joint and muscle pain, fatigue, headaches, sensative spine stiff neck, etc.)
This time around I took IV rocephin, which seemed to bring out nuero sypmtoms (burning pain in hands, feet and back, creapy crawlers in my head, face flushing, dizziness, muscle twitches and a feeling like my esophagus and lungs are burning.) Chest x rays and MRI were negative. Hard to tell if it's my lungs or if it's back and spine pain radiating upon breathing. I have no wheezing or coughing.
All these symptoms get much worse on abx.
After about 2 weeks after I became ill in July I notices my AC was full of mold and I am wondering if I am suffering from mold poisoning or perhaps a yeast infection? If you do search on the web, the symptoms are just about identical to Lyme, but no doctors of the 10 I have been to in the last 2 months no anythin about mold, it's impact, treatment or testing.
One day I wake up feeling I have Lyme and the next I am second guessing myself thinking it's mold poisoning. No matter how hard I try to convince myself it's one or the other but I can't stick with it and fight it. If it is lyme we all no how much mind power we really need to put into the recovery! Had negative Western blot because only band 23 came up. I don't know what that means?
Sorry for the looooong post.

Sorry that you are having a hard time?
Can you look into how to clean up mold and start there? Hate to say it but the airconditioner could have blown it and spread it.
Know its a pain when you don't feel good. Seems like getting better often takes work!
Best Wishes, Susan

Rubicon,
I have struggled with similar questions.
The symptomatic flares while on ABX seem to indicate to me that its not all mold-induced.
What I have heard of on this list is people whose latent Lyme gets activated by exposure to a stressor, mold being one of them.
www.chronicneurotoxins.com www.moldwarriors.com are good resources. I would suggest taking cholestyramine to try to remove mold neurotoxins, but I dont know if you are on oral or IV. My LLMD says cant do oral Abx and cholestyramine as same time because it greatly reduces effectiveness of the Abx.
Clearly, first step is to clean the house up. If you cant find any other sources (after removing /cleaning your AC) you may want to do a thorough HEPA vac cleaning, then have the house treated with Ozone to kill the remaining live mold. Also, you can get a special UV light that goes in your ductwork and kills any mold that may get circulated in the air.
Hang in there !

Robicon....the person treating me for lyme is excellent thinking the best way to approach is as if antibiotics are an adjunct.
First thing to do =
1. Clearn up environment (sorry i can't tell you how) (meaning mold) then if allergic to dust mites.... = SRESS.
STRESS = lower immune system then harder to fight lyme.
The other thing is this. I am wondering today considering my lung/chest pain constriction if the antibiotics are not also ADDING to that as a SIDE EFFECT. I don't know but sometime want to investigate.
The other thing is...what they say is if your treatment is not successful it is possible you don't have lyme. BUT if you have all the symptoms and clinical diagnosis, DON'T SECOND GUESS YOURSELF. Because you have enough other people doing that.
BUT if high mold, then your will have more challenge treating lyme, in fact, it is likely counterproductive.
Did you have CD57 checked as a back up to lyme diagnosis???
Did you have coinfectins ruled out???

I know there are a lot of posts in the archives here re: yeast/mold, but I'm not sure how to bring them up.
Get a copy of Dr. Crook's book, "The Yeast Connection".
It will answer a lot of your questions.
I keep picking up copies at thrift stores and handing them out.

Rubicon, a poster by the name of Riversinger had a similar experience - relapsed badly after mold exposure. However, is now doing well.
You may want to make contact and perhaps even search on previous posts by Riversinger.
