My chronic yeast problem began shortly after 'the' tick bite. I did not take any type of antibiotic for the duration of my lyme infection (21 yrs.) until last year. My yeast infection is obviously systemic as I have candida esophagitis -- I also have candida in my trachea. This was discovered during a lung biopsy/bronchoscopy and subsequent culture.

My burning question: Do you think you got your yeast infection from the tick or from taking antibiotics?

Also wondering if I should be attacking the yeast with something stronger than nystatin and diflucan.

As for your other question....I was dxd with yeast before I was dxd with Lyme and started on abx.

I've begun to wonder about this too. Sure candida is opportunistic and you see thrush in AIDS patients, but why would lyme specifically cause us to get yeast infections. Possibly its just immune suppression, but I'm now wondering if there are fungal organisms in ticks too.

Biting back -

What were your symptoms with the yeast affecting your trachea and esophagis?

I only ask because early on in my lyme disease I had horrific problems with inflamed airways, voice loss and choking problems. I wondered then if yeast had something to do with it.

I'd ask your doctor about an anti-fungal such as Nystatin or Diflucan.

One of the first symptoms I had from lyme was a yeast infection. Oil of oregano works really well for yeast.

3-4 drops under the toung. It is hot.

I got yeast when on antibiotics. I use olive oil extract, caprylic acid, and oil of oregano to help keep it away. Hiker

I don't feel it is from the tick but rather the immune system going down from the Lyme. This is the one problem I have not been able to get under control. I have been researching it and found that you have to clear the colonies that reside in the colon. Doing colonics is my next step in my attempt to control the yeast. Also avoiding dairy and meat unless it is organic. This is after you are off all antibiotics. I will give an update after I do this to let you know if it has helped.
