MY SYMPTOMS OF L. SIDED CRANIAL/FACIAL PAIN, HYPERACUSIS, & PHOTOPHOBIA COME TOGETHER IN WHAT I REFER TO AS A "FLAREUP". IT LASTED FOR 6WKS. THIS LAST TIME. IT IS TOTALLY DISABLING TO THE POINT THAT I COULD ONLY TOLERATE A 1-ON-1 CONVERSTATION & ONLY IF YOU DON'T SPEAK TOO LOUD OR FAST OR QUESTION ALOT. I HAVE TO WEAR SUNGLASSES, POLARIZED NOW, EVEN IN THE HOUSE. MY NEW READING GLASSES ARE THE DARKEST YOU CAN GET. I REALLY NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE ALSO HAVE ENCOUNTERED THIS. ALL TESTING COMES UP NEGATIVE. THANKS.

Is photophobia when you can't take the sun?
If soo.... The answer is yes. The sun used to be unbearable for me. I always wore sunglasses even on a cloudy day.
If I was out in the sun I would get like a sun stroke. Awful.
There's hope.
I've improved since being on antibiotics for 10 months.

My husband had severe and disabling hyperacusis for several months. It came and went on a random basis but was associated every time with a tingling / tickling sensation on his forehead and nose. I reckoned it was all linked to a partial palsy / neuropathy of one or more cranial nerves.
The hyperacusis suddenly reduced a few months ago without his being on any treatment, although the facial problem is still there. He still gets short spells of slight hyperacusis but they are fairly rare and not so disabling as they previously were.
He did have photophobia right at the start in the weeks following his bite and rash. Hated the main light on in the room - we had to use side lamps. But that only lasted about a month and was before the hyperacusis and facial problems started. Hope this helps!
