Hi all, If it's not one thing...it's another. Or as we say around here, or its....lyme. Thought I was done with anymore symptoms tests...but ND wanted to try IGENEX for Bart after round of IV Rocephin.
Saw her yesterday, said all tests came back neg..then got a voice message last night from llmd saying PCR's were neg...but IgG was positive with 1/80. Called him back this am, but he's not in today, nor is my ND...so now I'm at a quandry of what level/stage of Bart this is. Does IgG mean chronic, new infection? Or is it popping up now after current IV's and orals?
Guess it's good news to have a positive...but it's been a rough few weeks with finding the gallstones after only 3 weeks on Rocephin..and now we have to go a whole other route with meds (he wants to try IV Claforan and Rimaphin...) I'm just kicking to stay above the surface now..

Sorry to hear this, Java. I don't know much about bart testing...sorry.
Sometimes the coinfections will show up after the lyme has been knocked down a little.
Claforan may do very well for you, as well as the Rifampin. Rifampin was rough on me, but others seem to tolerate it well. The main thing is that you get the bart taken care of.

Thanks for your thoughts, much appreciated. Geesh...sounds like any of these meds for co-infections are tough. What were your reactions with the Rifampin?
I'm still hanging in there with my GB...hoping that the claforan and Rifampin don't irritate it anymore. By the way Tutu, did you try any GB flushes while working thru your GB issues?
Also, have an appt w/ Dr. C in December....so how many woolies do I need to bring?
Anyone else have had Bart testing and can afford to shed some brain cells on what the above IgG test results could mean?

As a new Lyme patient, my doc just got a 1:40 IgG for Bart and she said that was serological evidence of an infection with Bart and that it needed to be part of our treatment plan.

Did your LLMD state what level of infection is an IgG? My test came back 1:80 on the IgG. What meds are you going to be trying?
Also, I see you're in the San Jose area...are you seeing Dr. G or Dr. S in San Francisco?

all of my co-infection tests from Igenex for Bar,Babs, erlichi through out treatment were dancing around on the levels of IGG IGM. I was tested 3 time on each after 3 weeks off abx. One time they would be High IGM low IGG. Then up on both, then only low IGG. After 7 months of ABX my last test after 3weeks off abx are now <1:20 for both IGM IGG. I also don'thave any primary symptoms of any of the co-infections right now. I do think that the tests can be used as a guide. Really look at the breakdown that DR B has onthe symptoms of each of the co-infections. List your symptoms and see which co-infection they realate to. If your test that is low positive relates to the same sympotoms of the infection that you are having, it could be a no-brainer.. Then talk this over with LLMD - My Doc is willing to treat on symptoms alone if tests show negative but at this point some of what I am having could be lingering damage from the co-infections. But we also know that I have the lyme. The savarity has lessened.

I had my testing done through Quest, but no matter where, the result should have a reference range, above which the test is considered positive. The lab sets this range so I am not sure what it is for Igenex. An positive IGG without a positive IGM could be indicative of a past infection that has resolved or an early infection. This is in theory though. I had only positive IGG titers and I have had Bart for over a year or more.
I think many of the treatments for lyme work for the Bartonella also- at least a little bit. So maybe your treatments have temepered the infection a bit, but you still need more to get rid of it.
I am on mino and rifampin-which are working for me, but after 4 months, the rifampin still makes me sick. My initial titers were 1:512 and have come down to 1:65.

I did just want to chime in and give you some encouragement and a hug.
I'm still doing the IV rocephin; but that may be discontinued at the end of the month.
