I am on iv Claforan, this is the third week, I have definitely experienced a herx....headache, fatigue, etc...
I am concerned b/c I know you can have a fever during a herx, but mine is 102.3, and I feel like that is high.
I went to the ER last night, they drew blood.....so am awaiting culture results on Mon.
wbc count normal. But you can have a picc line infection w/out elevated wbc count.
Has anyone had a high fever just from a herx? I have never experienced this before....

102 is pretty high. Do you have a home health care or doctor's office supervising your care? I would give them a call ASAP to see what to do.
The ER may not be sufficiently familiar with PICC line issues. Best to get the word from someone with experience. I hope all goes well.

Erica, please use caution with this in case it is the picc line..IS there any redness or swelling or oozing of unusual discharge..Is there heat at the site of the picc? Do be careful...lymemomtooo

Erica....did you have high fever when you went to the ER? I can't believe they sent you home without first finding out what the bloodwork showed.
You could get into serious trouble quickly, believe me.

thank you all so much for your replies...I am still high with fever. It spiked even higher, to 104....There is no sign of any redness/swelling at the site, and the x-ray showed nothing..
My fiance checked my bloodwork for me ( he is in Internal Medicine, and boy has he learned alot about this disease...)
24 hours later, there is no sign of growth of anything in my blood cultures; thus far, in conjunction with normal wbc, that makes me less anxious. But I know that the culture work won't be comnpleted until tommorow, so I will await the results.
We were both surprised that they sent me home, but frankly, if they weren't going to know what to give me, I'd rather be sick at home.
With recent tylenol, that I hate to take, I am now recently at 99.4...
You all have been so kind to reply; it's been an anxious time. I stopped the Claforan, for the time being. Hopefully the high temps are killing some keets.
I am soo weak, but am drinking tons. Hopeully, this is a virus, (my monocytes were elevated, though overall white blood cell count normal...)
I will be patient, until tomorrow, and will pray for thebest results...
THANK YOU AGAIN, for your kind support....

Glad to hear you are OK! At least, as OK as you can be with all that going on.
