I switched back to tetracycline this morning. Tonight I have a bunch of raised red spots starting under my arm and going down the side of my ribs to my waist. They look kind of like mosquito bites. Is this a Lyme symptom or did I run into some other bugs?
The spots aren't itchy but I've been very itchy especially in my legs the last few nights. The spots are in the area of my ribs that has hurt for most of the last year. Any ideas?

Similar welts and bumps at various places on my body were my first Lyme symptoms. They diminished once I got on doxycycline (200mg bid). I live in the South, where the CDC denies the existence of Lyme disease but recognizes a "Lyme-like" disease, which they denominate STARI--Southern Tick Associated Rash Illness.
I wonder if this variety of Lyme presents more rashes?

i'd suggest taking photos, and video. close-up, and distant, and give cp to your doc, whether or not your doc has seen them. this way you can correlate them to a given microbe(s),those known and those as yet unknown, but will be discovered in the future, or a drug reaction.

Be sure and keep an eye on this -- could be an allergic reaction. You can develop an allergy to a med at any point in time -- even one you have taken before.
If the bumps start itching and start spreading you might consider calling your LLMD.

Hats: There is a possibility that this is the beginning of shingles (herpes zoster) rash.
There is an antiviral medication that will help, if given in the beginning of the outbreak.
You can check with your family doctor about this. Carol

The bumps are slightly faded this morning, no more have appeared and they don't itch. They are not shingles. Thanks for all the suggestions.
I'll keep an eye on them in case it is an allergic reaction. Usually those reactions make me tired. I feel good today. Hopefully it is just another odd Lyme symptom that will vanish (only to be replaced with another). Hmmm. whats next?

Funny, I had red dots on my legs when I started Amoxy. Sent a pix to my LLMD and he said it was probably a Lyme reaction to Amoxy. Was tested for Amoxy allergy to be safe and was neg.

Hi there hats
I got a rash of red dots that did not itch over my chest area (including the rib area that hurt the most) when a PCP first gave me doxcycline for what he suspected was Lyme.
Later my LLMD told me that was a Herx and a Lyme response to the Doxy.
That PCP thought it meant I was allergic to the Doxy (I wasn't, and have taken it since) -- and for that reason he stopped my treatment -- as well as the fact that since I had not improved on Doxy in 2 weeks, I could not possibly have Lyme. [insert gremlin face here!!]
Then it remained undx'd and untreated for almost 6 years.
My LLMD was very interested in that rash when I told him ab. it.
It went away on its own and was also not shingles.
I also presented w. a strange red rash all over my trunk as welll as a low grade fever 6 weeks before I fell ACUTELY ill w. this disease we now know is Lyme.
And I also still occasionally get red bumps that don't itch along my left arm.
I think migrating rashes of all kinds are all part of this disease.
I'm not a Dr., though, and you've gotten some good advice here. Whenever I saw a new doc at Urgent Care or ER and complained of the chest/rib pain, he or she ALWAYS looked for a rash there to see if it could be shingles. And do make sure you're not developing an allergy. (I'm not sure if hives always itch or not).
Can I be your Tetra buddy, as I am starting again this evening, after a break from it following a fall?
It would be great to have someone to go thru the Tetra ordeal with!

I also have them: red itchy spots mainly on my trunk and neck but not on face or arms or legs. In my case they appeared with intensive ABX treatment but they are relatively stable. So as long as they are not getting worse I just scratch myself more often.
I hope they will go away one day.

I get these red spots as well. I'm about 3 months into abx treatment with amox, minocyine, and tindamax. I showed these mosquito looking bites to my wife, all over my chest and stomach. Thought maybe a spider got me at night. They went away though...

My daughter gets a horrible "rash" or "bumps" when she cycles with her LD or coinfections.
At times, some almost look like boils. They are very painful, but do not itch. She gets them on her legs, arms and bottom.
She usually gets a couple small ones and is very painful in her joints/muscles, then as the bumps get worse the pain usually lets up somewhat.
I have pictures if you are interested in seeing them.
