I had both HHV-6 and Epstein barr activate because of the Lyme infection. Once I treated the Lyme, the viruses went back to their dormant state. Valtrex may help lessen the viral load, but the main thing here is to strengthen your immune system and fight the Lyme. Make sure you are taking Reshi max, echinacea pulsed and immune boosters along with your valtrex and antibiotics. Milk thistle is a good idea too.

I take zovirax b/c my HHV6 has been activated due to chronic Lyme......

I dont do well personally on Herbs so I stay away from them.

I have heard that L Lycene is also a good antiviral,

My Cat has an anctive herpes infection and I give this to her...the vet said it is a good as the antiviral meds....same thing.... Go figure!

Of course check with your Dr on that one! [Wink]

valtrex does not help with hhv6A, and can actually make the HHV6 virus replicate. You need to focus on immune modulation, and getting NK cell count and percentage activity increased and immune system in balance.

nannie,

Do you have a reference advising that valtrex can actually make HHV-6 virus replicate? If so, it would help me if you could post it or tell me how to find it. My doctor just gave me valtrex after I tested positive for HHv-6 and said it might or might not work, but I could try it. I'm sure he wasn't aware that it could actually make it worse, and I should take that info to him.

Thank you.

I posted a link in my last post. The link contains treatment references. Before starting Valtrex, it might make sense to look at the references and recomendations listed here.

HHV6A is tough to treat, especially if it is in CNS. If your provider already said that it might not work, then ask them why they are prescribing it. Also, ask them what can be done to boost the odds of success, and make sure that it is specific to your case. Every patient is different, and disease course can vary.

I have had some success with immune modulation using New Life Colostrum Plus and Samento.
My Lyme infection reactivated HHV6a, CMV, HPV, Coxsackie B3, and Zecrongruben fiber (tick virus). My EBV did not reactivate; go figure.
I agree with the idea of modulating immunity towards a stronger TH1 and a weaker TH2 so your body can take care of this itself, since viruses can only go dormant, and ultimately your own immunity has to be up to the job of keeping them supressed.

I have HHV6A too, but my doctor thinks once we get the lyme under control my own immune system should take care of the HHV6A. I think everyone has it, but it's suppose to be dormant, mine is active. I think the lyme weakens the immune systom and allows things to activate that normally wouldn't.

Dont you think if we could keep the HHV-6, EBV and CMV under control we would have more success with treating the lyme?

Would glutatione help?

Before I found out I had Lyme I was going to try Gancyclovir for the HHV6a. I think Ampligen is about the only thing that really helps with the HHV6a, and it's not FDA aproved yet. These medicines can be nasty and they cost a fortune. I think taking supplements to support your immune systom is a great idea.

Do Oil of Oregano or Olive Leave Extract help with HHV6?

I know they are supposed to help with some viruses. However, I was trying Oil of Oregano for the 1st time, and after 7 days of it, stopped because I went out of town & didn't have it with me. That was when the burning pain in my spine & other symptoms of HHV6 started. Might Oil of Oregano might also cause HHV6 to replicate, like valtrex is thought to?

Before I knew I had Lyme I did Valtrex, and Gancyclovir for HHV-6 & EBV. It did nothing, viruses atill active. i tried IV Hydrogen peroxide for months, high doses of Vitamin C to 100 grams, and still, nothing. In the end, as soon as I treated the L yme, the viruses went back to dormant. The best things to do are immune system boosting like Reshi Max and Immune Formula from Pharmanex, or Immune formula from Tyler Encapsulations. High dose pulsed Echinacea, Astralagus, etc. helped alot.

OMG, I've been taking Valtrex for 2 years (sometimes 6 per day). All on the advice of my LLMD. I have HHV-6 & now part of my immune system is not working. You know, I read & read, understand little of what I read (sometimes the mind just doesn't want to work right); and I'm just s-o-o-o-o very tired of all this. I definitely need a new dr.
