I just read in Dr. Ingram's "The Cure is in the Cupboard" about Oil of Oregano being helpful for IBS.
I don't know if I have that or not, but I sure do have a lot of the symptoms.
He says the crushed spice, in the form of Oregamax, is an ideal herb for colonic disorders, aids digestion by enhancing the flow of digestive juices.
His treatment protocol: a few drops of oil of oregano in juice or water, and also take Oregamax, 3 capsules with each meal.
The thought of taking more pills...!!! Has anyone tried this for IBS?
Thanks for any help.

Oil of Oregano does fight yeast and fungal infections, which tend to be the primary cause of IBS. I've been using it for a year and a half now, although I don't take the premade pills. I use the pure oil and put 3 drops into a capsule.
Real oil of oregano burns like you wouldn't believe!!! And you need to start very very slow with this stuff - one drop. The best saturation is to put a drop under you tongue - but after one drop I could never force myself to do it that way again. My face was on FIRE!!
I think it does help, but not enough, although I continue to take 4-5 drops in a capsule a day.
SuperCritical Omega 7 by New Chapter does wonder for IBS. It's made from Sea Buckthorne. Rebuilds the mucous membranes that typically get eroded by yeast causing leaky gut (and hence, IBS). You can get it online at Vitamin Shoppe
I didn't know fungal infections are the primary cause of IBS. I was hoping my yeast was gone, but, I must still have it.
I can tolerate Oregano drops if I put in an empty capsule and drink lots of V8 juice after! So I will do that.
So glad to know about the SuperCritical Omega 7. I checked iherb and their cost is $16.77. Vitacost.com is $14.39. For sure, I'm buying it!
Thanks so much for the help. I hope your IBS is gone. No fun.

Read the Perricone Prescription. Following Dr. Perricone's diet, I won the war against IBS after battling it for 30 years in three days. The culprit, unquestionably, is the carbohydrate.
Good luck!

JimMet,
Interesting to know that carbs are a cause for IBS, however, how do you get enough fiber without whole grains???
Greens just don't do it for me, and "C" has always been a huge problem.

The one thing that I do that Dr. Perricone doesn't mention is take a glass of Metamucil every morning before eating breakfast. By the way, his book wasn't written for IBS specifically, but for reducing wrinkles! He's a dermatologist I just happened to hear on a Public TV fundraising program. The things he said resonated with what I'd learned years ago when I got on the life-extension bandwagon steered by Dirk Pearson. So, I bought his book. Basically, his diet, which I don't adhere to strictly at all, is the Adkins diet, only stricter, since he doesn't allow milk products.
After reading two books specifically written for IBS and reducing my symptoms by maybe 20%, I'd given up ever getting rid of it completely. (By the way both those books advocated Metamucil, which might have accounted for their helping me somewhat.) After three days on Perricone's diet, however, I had absolutely NO IBS symptoms. They return if I go overboard on the carbs.
Once I learned that carbs were the problem, I cut back on them. I still eat bread and sweets--just not to the extent I did. And I try to eat a great deal more protein.
