For the past two days my skin is itching from head to toe with no relief. At first I thought it was a rash, but after evaluating the condition, I noticed the redness is from all the scratching I'm doing.

Tuesday, my LLLD put me on a "beta blocker" medication to stop the pounding heart and shaky limbs, etc. This itching began the first night I took the medication.

I'm wondering if anyone out there has had this experience; could this possibly be from herxing or a side effect from the beta blocker med.

Any input will be so appreciated...........

Woah....Beta blockers? I wouldn't think that's a good idea.

You need magnesium!

See posts by marnie, pq and others.

Welcome,
I think you are correct. I been thinking of not taking any more of the Beta Blockers, feel they are the problem and this type medication is somewhat unnerving to me........p.s. I already take lots of magnesium...........herxing and treatment for die-off has put my heart into overdrive..........

Did you recently start any other new meds in the last few months? My son had terrible itching for a few days and than awful hives. It was from the Mepron but didn't start until after the first month. I did resolve after a few days with benadryl.

Fatigued15, no, I haven't started any other new meds. This is day three of this itching. I'm beginning to think it is herxing..........there are so many different symptons when herxing. Maybe, I'll be like your son and it will just disappear in a few days............just in case it was the new med. Beta Blocker, I just left it off today to try and see if the itching stopped, but it hasnt so far..........guess that wasn't it, huh................

I have had itchy hive-like bumps on the back of my neck for almost two weeks. I finally gave up and called my LLMD and he took me off all antibiotics until I see him again. He said it may just be a herx, but to be on the safe side, stop the meds.

He told me to see my PCP if they didn't go away in a few days. It's been 4, so I guess I call her tomorrow. He said it's probably yeast.

Hey Dalphia!

I get horrible head to toe itching too everytime I change my meds. Not a rash or hives - just unbearable itching.

The first time it happened it was so severe that if I didn't stop scratching my palms were going to start bleeding! I 'rode it out' by distracting myself in any way I could and after about an hour / hour and a half, it subsided.

I wouldn't call it a herx 'cuz it happens usually an hour or two after I've ingested the meds and I've heard it takes 24-48 hours to herx. I think it's more that the abx. are a major assault on the bod in and of themselves.

The first time it happened I was afraid to take a bath as that can exacerbate symptoms. But now when I do suffer this reaction I take a warm (not hot) bath, lather up with aloe vera or some other non-toxic soap, rinse well and then apply lots of lotion. Aloe vera gel could work too - haven't tried that. Maybe next time. [Roll Eyes]

Oh, and the first time it happened and I was jumping around like I had ants in my pants I ran to the fridge and slugged some aloe vera juice. I think it made a difference. Aloe Gold is an expensive brand but the juice is high quality.

"Beta blockers" don't sound like a good solution.

Hang in! It doesn't scare me anymore. Hope this helps.

Limbites, Oh, thank you so very much for your response. I was beginning to think no one on the board had every experienced this. Today is day 3 and my skin looks like I've been in a battle zone.
I can say it may have let up some, but very little. Now, I have all these skinned marks on my arms, legs, palms of hands, even legs and soles of feet, not to mention the private areas which really do hurt. It is certainly hard to not scratch when the skin is feeling as if son fire. It even itches deep within my ears, on my earlobes, scalph, actually every inch of my body.

So, you think it will subside in abut three days, oh, I hope so since today is day tree.

I'm experiencing nauseua due to this and am sure I now have some inflammation in the sights where I've scratced so deeply. Thanks again for your post and please keep in touch..........you've helped me to understand that it was possibly the Beta Blocker which I didn't take this morning........all these meds. are playing havoc on my system since I've never been one to take a lot of medicince.............Thanks, Dalphia

Jordan (age 15) has head-to-toe itching. It gets better at times and then gets really bad. His LLMD put him on Allegra and that has helped.

His LLMD said the itching can be herxing, yeast, Lyme or an unknown cause.

Dalphia,

For me the intense itching subsided within 24 hours. I agree that it might be the beta blockers making things worse instead of better.

I too was scratching the soles of my feet and my palms almost to the point of drawing blood! I'm not much of an alarmist so I was really shocked that this was happening to ME! So far, my herxes have just been a continuation/amplification of my same ole same ole symptoms - fatigue, musculoskeletal pain, cognitive impairment, irritability... [dizzy]

If you're not better by tomorrow a.m. I'd call your LLMD first thing. I don't think the itching should go on so long... When did you stop the beta blockers?

Try not to scratch! I have a small scab on my earlobe from over-itching last week!

Keep me posted.

Thanks for everyone's input regarding this itching. Day 4 and it continues, actually seems worse tonight, almost intolerable. Guess it is the 64 dollar question, but I've got to have some relief so will call my doctor in the a.m. Perhaps Allergro will help, can't keep this up muc longer without an answer and some relief. My body is almost raw from the scratching and when you think you shouldn't scratch, it just happens by reflex...........not a good thing........Dalphia

I am currently on my third day of a 3 day washout from all abx, pro bx, and everything and the last couple of days, I have been lucky I havbe not scratched my legs right off!

Personally, I think it is a result of the accumulation of the antibiotics themselves, and a small percentage contribution is toxin die off.

It's hard to tell, but that is my intuition on what I am experiencing.

check sources for side-effects, including the PDR, a collation of drug company descriptions; drug reaction; drug-herb; drug-nutrient reaction.

Try the Miracle II neutralizer product in your bath water. You can run it on your scalp for relief. Google it and you can find it. I bought the sample pack and have found that clients who complalin of itching scalps stop itching when I shampoo w/the soap. It is a detoxing product.

I was lucky and found it at a local health food store, the itching will drive you LOCO.

Good luck!

Dalphia-

It could be a herx but you may want to check with your dr. because it could be an allergic reaction to a medication you're on. When my wife was on antibiotics, she was fine for about 1 week and then she developed a very severe allergic reaction which included a lot of itching. She didn't know it was an allergic reaction until she saw the dr but within a week or so after she got off the abx she was feeling a lot better.

Thanks to all of you for sharing your views on this severe itching problem. It seems somewhat better today, (day 5) and I believe it may be subsiding. I do go back to my doctor tomorrow, hopefully, I'll get an answer..........in the meantime, my skin sure has some healing to take place........remains a mystery to me because I didn't begin taking the antiboditcs until after the itching began..........however, I did begin a Beta Blocker on Wednesday of last week..........guess a mixture of different medications, supplements and of course the herxing could have created this nightmare........feelsorry for anyone going thorugh this ordeal. The itching described usually corolates w/ yeast problems for me.

Quit
sugars, starchs and take 2 diflucan for 3 days in a row. Grapefruit seed extract capsules help within 2 days.

My hubby has the intense itching on his legs, nearly scratches them raw sometimes. It usually just lasts about a day though..

Too new to this to see a pattern, but he started the itching about two weeks into the doxy......then it got better. Had it again when he had a herx reactions at around 4-5 weeks....

Still itches on some days, but nothing like it was when he first went on antibiotics.

Best of luck to you.
