I have been on IV abx for 8 weeks followed by 4 months of oral abx... five days ago I began to follow Dr. Schardt's suggested treatment for late stage lymes and have begun taking 200 mg of Diflucan daily.... I think I feel better, but I have been experiencing strong fasiculations in one arm and milder ones in my legs.... has anyone had similar experiences... could this be herx... and if so how long should I expect it to last... the fasiculations always make the unpleasant terrifying thought of ALS pop up... as I have always had inconclusive lymes tests, but have had extreme exposure and most of the classic symptoms...neuropathy in feet, cramping of hands, teste pain, neck creaks, unexplained tendonitis. low body temp. fatigue, depression, possible rash (long ago and was diagnosed as ringworm). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My 15 year old son is currently taking diflucan 150mgs, but only twice per-week. Our LLMD is being cautious with it.
My son did 5 months of IV abx, babs treatment, probably another 6 months of orals. He was pretty much sympton free for 2 months except for occasional fatigue, and some slight achiness in the morning.
He developed a stomach yeast infection while on abx and probiotics so our LLMD introduced diflucan. He takes freeze-dried garlic, acidophilus, and extra virgin coconut oil as well.
My son still has some occasional slight achiness, however, this goes away completely shortly after taking the diflucan. He said he feels great shortly after he takes it. He swears by the stuff. The doc has prescribed enough diflucan for 8 weeks at 2 per-week. Diflucan stays in your system for a very long time.
Inadvertently, we're doing Schardt's treatment plan. Our LLMD is well familiar with it. I'm sure his goal is to clear the yeast and then put him back on abx to finish his treatment. So far, I've seen no sign that his lyme is relapsing at all. The minor symptoms he does manifest resolve quickly after taking diflucan so we're guessing the symptoms are yeast related.
So far, so good, I'll keep you posted on progress.

Sorry, but this isn't even close to the Schardt protocol.
Schardt calls for 200 mg of Diflucan every day for 50 days, no breaks. (not 150 mg, or anything less than 200 mg)
Many people claim that they are doing the protocol, but they start and stop the diflucan due to herxes, they take less than the required amount, and they continue the use of abx with the diflucan.
People will still get benefits from using diflucan in various ways, but I am afraid that the Schardt Protocol is going to get too much negative feedback as a result of altered Tx guidelines.
infectomatt; what you are experiencing with diflucan is quite common with drugs like Flagyl, Rifampin, and Diflucan. It can easily be a herx, and it can also be from the effects that these drugs can have on the CNS. It is most likely temporary.

I take diflucan 200 mg 3X week and it make me feel like I am herxing at times.
I don't know if it a yeast die off -which cause's similar die off symptoms like a herx. Or My body is expelling the yeast toxin,s.I think a combination of the two.
I know I couldn't take all the abx without the diflucan.Heavy duty abx now three years and aprox 9 years before that of doxy and previous IV .Has killed off alot of my good flora dispite LARGE does of probiotics.

Remember to space your probiotics two hours at least away from diflucan ,same as abx.

Schardt does state 200mg per-day, however, my son is only 15 so this could be why he's doing a lower dosage. Additionally, diflucan stays in your system for several days.
My son was pretty much symptom free for 2 months before the yeast hit. His symptoms now all appear to be yeast related and not lyme, though it's difficult to tell.
The one clue we do have is that he feels great within a half hour after taking his diflucan. This effect seems to last for a day or two and then mild yeast symptoms resurface. He takes the diflucan and symptoms once again disappear.
