One of the mom's from my daughters theater group was taken by ambulance to the hospital 2 days ago with severe head and neck pain.
Thus far they've done MRI's and a spinal tap for meningitas and still can not find the cause of her pain. Could this possibly be lyme?

Accute onset and no prior incidence of other symptoms? The chances are much lower than a lot of other possibilities.

I'm not sure what david is trying to say.
Personally, acute head and neck pain was all I had when I was bitten by a deer tick (found engorged tick on embedded in earlobe) in 1990. I believe that I was infected with Ehrlichia by that tick as well. I also had the bull's eye rash. Very small bull's eye but still a bull's eye.
I didn't have any other symptoms until much later.
I would suggest TBD's to this person and give them a list of symptoms. They may be experiencing other symptoms that they didn't realize were something to worry about.

My son started with headache and neck pain that started all of a sudden. We ended up in the hospital and told it was migraines. I pushed doctors and found out it was Lymes. Keep searching... The article listed on this website about lymes and children mentions occipital nerve pain (this is what caused my son so much neck pain).

To clarify my post; Headache and neck pain alone can be a lot of things. There i a very loing list. Some of which can be pretty bad and require immediate action (ie. anyerism. bacterial menegitis etc.) These are much more acutely serious than Lyme so they have to be looked at first so they can be ruled out. The last thing you want to do is treat for Lyme when in fact the problem caused by something else.
With symptoms, one has to generate a graded scale of posibilities and work down the list. With no findings of anything wrong it starts to get complicated but still there has to be a list rated from most to least likely. The acute seriousness of each posibilitiy also factors into this list of priorities.
Assuming that they did a physical examination then a recent insect byte can likely be ruled out, which still allows for TBD but with no other history of symptoms (this is not clear from the original post) a longer term TBD related illness is less likely.
So maybe my answer should have been; Yes it could be lyme related but there are a lot of other things that should be checked FIRST.

Speaking of neck pain - Does anybody out there get strange "creaks" and "cracks" in your neck? Like what the Chiropractor does to you, but now you can do it all by yourself? My neck pops and cracks all the time!!! Just wanted to know if anyone else experienced this strange symptom...
