Well, the question is why those people were taking antibiotics. Was this some kind of study to find out if cardiac disease was caused by infection?

The way I look at it--
If I live long enough for ABX to kill me- I will be Lucky--Jay--

lou, that's what I believe too! Did find an article.
Clarithromycin should be used with caution if the patient has liver or kidney disease, certain heart problems (e.g., QTc prolongation or bradycardia), or a mineral imbalance (e.g., low potassium or magnesium levels)."
Since Mg is a known HMG CoA reductase inhibitor...is ADDITIONAL Mg being pulled out of ``storage''?
The long term effect of that worries me...as my son was on Ritalin...which does the same ie., raises plasma levels of Mg. It had to be coming from somewhere...out of ``storage'' which puts him at greater risk for all sorts of problems later in life?
Ritalin has very recently been linked to depression and possibly even cancer later in life. (We are in the process of ``rebuilding'' his nutrients which I know will take a long time.) Thank goodness laws were just passed preventing schools from demanding kids be put on Ritalin for ADHD! I wish I knew then (20 years ago) what I know now (thanks to George Eby).
The danger of long term abx. is PRIMARILY the destruction of many strains of ``friendly bacteria'' and/or their mutations and the complications that follow, IMO. I have yet to find a ``complete'' listing of the various strains of ``friendly bacteria''. There are MANY and they EACH have a function. Which ones are knocked off? How many? How much have to be given to restore and maintain their numbers?
Healing STARTS in the gut. Without a healthy gut = no nutrients absorbed and MADE. The nutrients are absolutely essential to make our hormones, enzymes, healthy antibodies, neurotransmitters, etc.
If you feel that abx. (long term) might kill you, why not seriously consider alternate routes that others have posted worked for them, such as: ozone saunas, a dedication to a truly healthy diet and exercise, etc.? In the long run (and I DO want you all to live long, healthy and happy lives!), these appear to be "safer" and perhaps more effective.
P.S. Chlamydia (second web link) depletes tryptophan (J Clin Invest. 2003 June 1) and likely uses PABA to make folic acid. It was just linked to a % of MS patients. It is a STD...sexually transmitted disease...quite common and can go undetected. When B6 or folic acid drop, up goes homocysteine (not good).PABA supports folic acid production by the intestinal bacteria. Not enough PABA, there goes folic acid production...

My brother in law had type 2 diabetes. He began to have trouble with his eyesight and the doctor put him on a medication that had leukemia as a possible side effect. My brother in law developed the leukemia and was dead within the year. 47 years old.

Thanks loco. I looked at that article and found it interesting that, as usual, they discover a suspicious bacterial presence in these cases but say don't try to ward off heart attack by taking antibiotics! Got to save that stuff for the chickens and pigs, I guess.
Marnie, have you tried telling people with cancer to use healthy diet, exercise, rife, and ozone saunas?

ok I've had a headache for days and have not been on so forgive me but my eyes hurt to bad to read it all. I am taking biaxin and plaquinil and although I am herxing alot for the first time in at least 2 years I can walk without constant pain. I have taken biaxin a lot because it works for me and doesn't hurt my stomach. Should I stop taking it? Just finished all the cardiac tests because the Augmentin gave me a bad heart herx. Please help my brain can't think about it and understand now. Thanks mimi

I posted about Biaxin a few weeks back. I was given it for a sinus infection and about an hour upon taking it I started having severe pounding heart, dizzyness, tightness and a nervy feeling in the center if my chest that lasted until the drug was out of me. I took one more just to make sure it was the biaxin that was causing it....sure enough same thing...
I have no idea what to make of this b/c I was on biaxin and Plaquenil about 6 or so years ago with nine of these effects.
LLMD is kind of stumped as well although he told me that he has had patients react this way to biaxin before but nit sure why.
Just saw a cardiologist and he was stumped as well..... He thought it was possibly that the biaxin kicked up my adreniline and in turn caused the symptoms I was having.....
Unfortunately I dont think I will ever take another one and I am pretty bummed about it b.c I feel that it is such a good overall drug.....

And speaking of infections causing cancer, here is another study that suggests it. However, I am not sure that geographic incidence ensures that infections were the cause. Seems like some locations might have more exposure to toxic chemicals, pollutions, etc.

Yahoo! News Study suggests infections are cause of child cancer
Mon Dec 12, 7:50 AM ET
Common infections that affect mothers and babies may trigger certain types of childhood cancers, researchers said on Monday.
They found that leukemia and brain tumors, leading cancers in children, occurred in clusters which suggests that outbreaks of infections are a contributing cause of the disease.
"We found that place of birth was particularly significant, which suggests that an infection in the mother while she is carrying her baby, or in a child's early years, could be a trigger factor for the cancer," said Dr Richard McNally, of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in northern England.
"These could be minor, common illnesses ... such a cold, mild flu or a respiratory infection," he added in a statement.
McNally and a team of researchers from England and Scotland, who reported the findings in the European Journal of Cancer, said the results could improve understanding about how cancer develops and may lead to better prevention and treatment.
Although cancer in children is rare, rates of the disease in youngsters in Europe have increased over the past three decades. Survival rates however have improved. Five-year survival rates are about 75 percent in western Europe and 63 percent in eastern Europe.
Leukemia is the most common childhood cancer, accounting for nearly one-third of all cases. Most of the rise has been in children aged 1 to 4.
The researchers believe an infection in the womb or early in life could lead to cancer in young people who already carry mutant cells that would make them more vulnerable to the disease.
"The virus would hit this mutant cell and cause a second mutation, prompting the onset of cancers like leukemia or brain tumors," said McNally.
The findings are based on a statistical analysis of data from the Manchester Children's Tumour Register, which recorded all cases of childhood cancers diagnosed between January 1954 and December 1998.
They looked for unusual patterns of cancer linked to the time and place of children's birth and where they were living when diagnosed with cancer.
In some clusters they found 8 percent more cases of leukemia than would normally be expected and a 13 percent above-average incidence of the brain tumour astrocytoma.
"These findings provide more clues to a link between viruses and some types of childhood cancer, but we need more evidence before we can be sure," said Professor John Toy, of the charity Cancer Research UK, which funded the research.

Lou, I know it is impossible for some people to believe, but...
There really ARE people who have overcome even cancer by following very specific diets or other "alternative" therapies.
One such diet is called the Hallelujah diet and I read an article in our local newspaper submitted by a bowel cancer patient who recovered by simply strictly following this diet.
I personally met a young woman who told me she was on "deaths bed" a few years ago (the description of her symptoms reminded me of Rocky Mt. Spotted Fever...and she once lived out west). Anyway, she only recovered when she became a strict vegetarian, but it took a full year. The doctors had virtually given up on her.
In Italy, Doctor Valletta...cured RA, ulcerative colitis and invasive bowel cancer in 6 months using Mg pyrophosphate (phosphorous and thiamine - B1) and sublingal B6 in 6 months time.
The doctors in Romania cured 2 early onset lyme patients when they restored a "significant" Mg drop.
In Germany, in the 1970s, vets cured dogs with neurobabesia using IV soda bicarb.
Do I believe natural, OTC things and various other alternative therapies can cure serious diseases? You bet. There IS more than one path to healing...some are "safer" than others.
Lou, I highly recommend you watch the true life based movie called "First Do No Harm". It is with Meryl Streep. This is the story of how the Johns Hopkins ketogenic diet cured a child who was having practically NONSTOP seizures. Prior to going to Johns Hopkins with her child, her doctors in another state were ready to remove part of the child's brain! Many of the "extras" in the movie...the actors...were real patients who
recovered their health using simply a diet change.
Hopefully, this will open your eyes to the POSSIBILITY that there ARE "alternative" routes that work.
Now...just HOW they are working takes a LOT of research to figure out!
P.S. Of COURSE infections trigger cancer! The pathogens...bacterial, viral,fungal...take from us specific nutrients. You could say they are all "parasites". We need nutrients to make RNA, DNA, etc....and when those nutrients are depeleted = big time problems. Malformed proteins and/or the triggers for cell division go hay-wire.
Cancer cells contain no hydrogen...if you can get hydrogen INTO any cell, you can heal it. Hydrogen is the ultimate "antioxidant". I guess you could say we are "powered" by it...we are making it constantly when acids (lots) react with minerals/glycogen. This is our pH...potential of hydrogen...its availability to keep us healthy and alive.
