Hi Ladies, For any of you who have chronic lyme with co infection for more than 10 years I hope maybe you can help me here.. Have any of you missed periods? I've been sick ummm lemme think now, 15 yrs this dec. Just this yr I suddenly have been havin missed periods.. I missed in July and now this month it isn't here again. From August until this month is was normal and ontime now suddenly this month it aint here again.. I haven't been on any kind of treatment to speak of in 3.5 years ( long story) so I'm wondering if this is Lyme induced or its possible at 35 Im beginning the menopause process. Any thoughts? Thanks

The day after I totally "broke", I started freezing from the inside, nothing I did could warm me up. My period also ceased to exist. I didn't have another period for about a year.
I could have been going through the start of menopause, but it seems awfully concidental that it would happen the moment I physically totally fell apart.

I am in my forties, but still think I am on the young end to be going into menopause. At any rate, now with more treatment, my menstrual cycle seems like it is really messed up, and hormone testing indicates the beginning of the dreaded menopause. I am having hot flashes, but can't tell if it the meds, the illness or just plain ole me going into this.
At any rate, it stinks.

19 years now.My periods have been brutal.Long and heavy.And symptoms flare when I am pms,which I hear is common in lyme.
Never missed a period.But heard it can cause hormonal fluxes. When was your last gyno appointment.?
There are alot of others problems that could cause you to miss periods.
Just to be on the safe side maybe a trip to the gyno wouldn't hurt.

Well I have been lucky in that area. I've been sick for almost 20 years, thought it was CFS, just found out this spring it was Lyme. I'm 47 and I have just minor female problems. Kathy

Bitten at age 44. Periods got funny, sporadic, stopped altogether. Ferocious headaches began, never ended. GP dx'd me hypothyroid. Did a hormone panel, had hormone levels of a way post-menopausal woman! Doc said, "Throw out your birth control!" I thought that was kind of early!
I'm 48 now.
Took me a while to figger out I had Lyme, like everyone else here.
Periods never returned. (Gosh, someone hand me a Kleenex..

At 42 (yesterday--Happy Birthday to me!). Mine just keep getting longer and longer!
Do you have Babesia? Babesia is suppose to really mess you up--I got to start the artimisia again, makes me tired all the time.

As you get older, your cycles will naturally get more erractic, regardless of illness. Your hormone levels change and become less regular, so your cycles will generally be irregular, including irregular cycles and increased flow. My cycles started to go haywire in my early 20s, and I was actually diagnosed with premature ovarian failure at 26 (turned out to be lyme instead). Anyway, I personally have noticed that my cycles have gotten lighter since I have been on treatment. As you are not on lyme treatment right now, it's probably not a bad idea to check in with your doc just to be sure. Good luck!

At 42 when I became ill from lyme my periods became brutual. Heavy clotting and bleeding often. After 2 yrs my gyn said let's remove all but your ovaries(if they look good when I get in there). They were good.
I don't miss them parts at all.

Opposite for me! I have the Endless Period.
Had Lyme since I was 4 (I'm 21 now). My periods have been literally never-ending--I bleed constantly without BC pills...seen many docs in the past before my diagnosis, they couldn't figure out what was wrong, they just put me on BC pills and for the most part that puts it under control. Lots of spotting in between periods though.

I contracted lyme in my early twenties. My menstrual cycle went from 28-30 days to 45-52 days within a year of being bitten.
For the past 16 years my body has managed to handle the infection (for the most part)until about 2 years ago when all hell broke loose. I stopped having periods for a while, then they would start for an hour and stop. No coincidence here-a really good reflection of what is happending in my body!

Im 33, been sick for over 5 years now. Just recently I have been having horrible hot flashes, chills, mood swings like you wouldn't believe. PMS has been horrible. My symptoms do flare big time during this time. I did have a lot of missed periods a couple years ago thanks to this dreaded disease as well.

Hi Linda, My doctor ran a thyroid panal a few months ago because I had an some kind of odd body reaction in his office one day and he was almst convinced after seeing this that my thyroid was off.. but the numbers all came back normal...

My period was always exactly 26 days apart. Pre-dx, I was getting it about every 18-20 days with lots of spotting and cramping in the middle.
I've now been treated for 3 years and last month was the first time that I got back to 26 day cycle. It has slowly worked in that direction since I started treatment.
I'm 46 years old since yesterday. So Linda LD you're 3 years and 364 days younger than me! I'm not sure how leap year figures in to that though.
When I was in my late 30's, I thought I was pre menopausal. Ended up being TBD's.

I agree with others that as you age, especialy into 40's, your hormones will change and your cycle will too. However, Lyme can make things go whacko too. My GYN/surgeon is currently researching Lyme and Endometriosis b/c he has seen a connection between the two.
He presented his research at the 25th annual endometriosis association's conference this past autumn. He has found Bb in endo tissue and believes Bb could be "hiding" in female parts. Which may be one of many reasons that Lyme seems to affect women more than it does men.
So much to think about. So many places to look. If you have any reason to believe this or any other endometriosis doc might be useful to you, please e-mail me privately.

hi, i got bitten age 18, now aged 27. periods been absent for many years since being bitten. would come back for a few months then stop for a few years again!!! etc - i just put it down to lyme!! & stress lyme causes on the body

Did your doctor take ALL the tests? A lot of the time they will just take the TSH--you need the other ones taken also. Call and see if you can get a copy of your thyroid work up.
Gorgilla, I am officially 42 as of Sunday--things are looking better--at least I know what the big problem is now--my husband! Ha, ha, ha--tht's a joke--and he wouldn't think it is funny!!! He's a keeper--I swear!

Wow! I was going to post this. And I will, since I am not sure if people will still read my reply.
I've been taking Diflucan only for a while, and experienced my first hot flashes! I am 44, and my periods have been irregular during the last year or so. Can hot flashes every mean herxing?

yes,my periods have been weird.But I would make sure you go to your gyn to check it out.
There are other reasons that can make you miss periodes,other than lyme and is always a good idea to make sure evrythings OK before you decided it's a lyme thing.

I'm 37 and have missed one period last year. My cycle is different then the "norm" though. I usually ovulate on day 28-30, which makes my cycle 45 days or longer. Sometimes my cycles are 50-55 days because I ovulated later. If you completely miss any more periods I would get an appt. with your OB just to make sure all is okay.

I have no idea when I was infected - I suspect it may have been well over 20 years ago. My periods when I was a teenager were awful - I would get one about very six months and it would be really heavy and I would get anaemic.
Doctors didn't seem to think that this was anything unusual and just put me on the pill at the age of 16. When I decided to come off the pill a few years later - the same happened again one period every few months. So I started taking it again.
I stopped taking the pill about five years ago and my periods are now regular but I have very low level of hormones and ovulation is just an absolute nightmare every month.
Lyme totally screws up your hormones - as too does a long time on the pill.

I went off the pill 3 months before getting full blown Lyme. Since then my periods are infrequent and very brief.
I had horrible periods since my teens (mid 40s now)terrible cramps, nausea, headaches. Since starting Lyme treatment I have had absolutely no cramps or ovarian pain. Both had plagued me for many years.
Actually my first Lyme period came approx 6 months into treatment and began with excruciating pain. Since then no cramps at all.
I'm having occasional hot flashes. Not sure what's up. hats
