When I look at the immense list of symptoms of Lyme, I find I have over 60% of all the symptoms listed. I really believe this is my problem, although, current docs say no due to one neg blood test. Anyhow, before I get too deep into this......
How common are the multiple tick infections and is there any that are most common in/near WV/PA/VA area? I believe I was infected while hiking in Gettysburg, PA, but live in WV and had also hiked prior to G'burg in VA, so you see the reason for the large geographical area.
I don't think Rocky Mtn...is common here, but I think Babeosis may be, so I want to be a little more up to date before next doc visit. I'm going searching for a LLMD this week and hopefully see one after the holidays. Probably couldn't get an appt now, anyhow.

Hi,
Sorry you didn't get many replies. I was going back through looking for a specific article and saw you post.
Now that it's back on the front page, you may get more answers.
Coinfections are very common. There have been studies done in my area of PA that showed about 50% of ticks in a certain park also carried Ehrlichia.
I personally have Bartonella, Ehrlichia, mycoplasma, Babesia and Lyme.
A doctor in this area has just recently started testing for Rocky Mt. Spotted Fever and has found 2 cases already (just a few months).
Hope this helps,
Corgilla

HMMM......sounds like it's all too common, unfortunately.
I'm working on trying to convice my docs to revisit Lyme in my case, so maybe I need to look further into all these as well. They aren't receptive to the Lyme much less all this.
I didn't realize this could be so complicated.

I have not heard of any/many people with only Bb. Seems that almost everyone if not everyone has co-infections as well and I suspect the majority of those that may say that have only Bb have not been tested for or were missed when testing for coinfections,

I had positive serology for Babesia, Lyme, and Ehrlichia (hme & hge) - wasn't tested for Bartonella...
Husband positive for Lyme and Babesia...wasn't tested for Bart.
I think it is extremely common and that is one of the things that I am fighting to educate people down here in the South about is that the chances of just getting ehrlichia or Rocky Mountain are so slim.
I feel like yes, it may appear that ehrlichia made someone extremely ill because it tends to be so acute when you first get sick with it but little do they know that in the back ground a spirochetel bacteria is waiting for its turn.
I also think that there are probably all kinds of nasty things that ticks carry that have not been identified yet. Posted by lesley1954 (Member # 7626) on :
I don't have any information on how region-specific different co-infections may be, but in response to original post -- I live in Northern Virgina. I developed a bulls-eye rash on the back of my knee after hiking in Shenandoah Natl Park about 17 years ago. I had never heard of Lyme disease at the time. In the past five years, I've removed probably half a dozen deer ticks following camping trips in VA and MD.
My WB from Igenex was officially indeterminate, although I have two positive bands specific to Lyme. Also Babesia titer was positive and Bartonella was PCR positive.
My 14-year-old daughter has positive Lyme WB, but so far has tested negative for co-infections. Her doctor feels pretty certain she has Babesia, based on symptoms.
Hope that's of some help.

If you think about that vector that bite you and image where it was before and what it had been eating and surviving on you before finding you, you can understand why there are so many bacterias, virus, protoza and parasites involved.
Once we've been infected with whatever, IMO every insect bite that follows adds one or many more bad guys to our system. A healthy immune system would find it and destroy it. Not ours. It's either laid back and not working because of abx or the immune system has freaked out and gave up trying to battle a enemy that changes daily.

MyLYme, I think it is ALL to common. You ought to stop in at the Gettysburg support group sometime if you can make it up.
I live in northern York, and all 4 of my family members have lyme and co-infections.......I have Babesia and just recently found Bartonella in Oct.....originally diagnosed in Feb 2004....My husband has erlichia and lyme...my oldest daughter bartonella and erlichia, and the youngest babesia and erlichia.
