Anyone have any info related to Lyme infection rates on Marthas Vineyard (off of Cape Cod)?
My daughter was reinfected and our Lyme Doc is telling us to "stay away" from Marthas Vineyard.
Thanks and Happy HEALTHY New Year!

Hi,

Here's a link to a map of Mass with number of cases from 2000-2004.

http://www.mass.gov/dph/cdc/epii/lyme/lymehp.htm#map_incidence

I've also read somewhere that a large number of the locals have or have had Lyme disease. There's also a lot of Tularemia there. I saw that on a show on PBS.

Hope this helps,

Corgilla

Thanks for posting that Corgilla...

I lived in MA from 2000-2004

Went to Nantucket once...found ticks crawling on me but not attached....had double vision while I was there...figured it was just the weird neurological symptoms I had in the past with migraines....didn't go to the ER.

Seemed ok for a year...

So looking at the stats it seems that Nantucket probably has the highest incidence of lyme...

I got blessed with the trifecta (sp)...probably the highest incidence of Babesia too...

If I was rich I would travel on the ferrys back and forth handing out pamphlets on lyme and coinfections...

Don't think I will ever go back... [Eek!]

Thanks lymeloco...at this point I think our previous lifestyles of hiking, letting our German Shepherd sleep on our bed, and now living in a place where 70 ticks can be collected in one hour during a tick drag has put us at great risk.

While I am sure that I had an exposure while visiting Nantucket...it was just a matter of time before I would have another somewhere else.

I think I have had multiple exposures at this point although interestingly enough I only remember one attachment way back.

Funny I don't remember all those tick signs on Nantucket - of course we were staying fairly far from town.

Good links - thanks [Wink]

sizzled,

Thanks ... I read the info.

I'll be extra cautious while on Nantucket and will be slathered with repellent 24/7.

I live in MA and just wanted to say that Martha's Vineyard has just reported a case of Eastern Equine encephalitis (EEE) transmitted from mosquitos.

Please be careful~ Melissa
