My child meets the CDC criteria for Lyme. Besides the WB, Lyme titer is over 5.0. Currently at end of 2nd week of IV cephrioxone (sp) and no Herxheimers. Is it working? Will my child end up with Herxheimer reactions and if not, does it matter? Thanks. The bite and the big EM was in early August, but not dx until Dec.

My kids have done, and my daughter is again doing IV rocephine.

I have heard that the 4th wk a big herx can occur. Has the dr mentioned also giving a cyst buster? The lyme hides out in cyst form and only flagyl or tindimax will kill that form.

3 of us have lyme and we all present and herx differently.

You might want to study herx symptoms. I am thinking that kids are not always able to report symptoms. Sometimes, they can be subtle. trouble with balence (spilling), a little light sensitive, etc.

Our herx symptoms change from day to day and sometimes kids don't bother to mention because it's not excruciating or anything and then something else is feeling weird.

Also, sometimes we don't notice a new symptom because we are used to not feeling quite right anyway so there is not the contrast.

This got long! Hope all goes well for your son.

Hi doodileedoo. Herxes vary individually but many people experience them at the begining of treatment and every three to four weeks. Some people do not herx. Your child may herx in the next two weeks.

It is a good idea to document your child's symptoms as best you can. One way to do this is to list the three main symptoms he/she has each day with a numerical rating of their severity, from 1-10. Over time when you review this, you can see how he/she is responding to the meds and when the herxes are occurring.

The Herxheimsr is rather variable. And is very likely affected by duch things as place in the gtowth cycle of the bacteia , how you're eating, what supplements you have been taking, and what antibiotics you are on at what dose.
The lack of a readily perceivable herx, therefore, in no way means you don't have Lyme.
I was very glad when I didn't have herxheimers! I did have some nasty ones, though.
