Alright, starting an anti yeast diet today. Im gonna need some support. This whole thing sounds like it really sucks but I don't know what else to do! My gut is burning and hurting so bad. I was up half the night last night because of the abdominal pain.
Can one do this diet effectively and still be on antibiotics? Thanks
Nancy

Why is it that my stomach pain really, really flares right before that time of the month. Any of the other ladies notice this? I mean my stomach will burn more, more heartburn, etc.
I cant take much more. Im in tears again just sitting here. Even eating a few carrots and a little turkey at lunch caused a great deal of pain in my stomach today. I really do want to die. I really, really wish God would just end my suffering. Im not getting better and I cant do this anymore.

Hang in there Nancy! It's got to get better. I really should be doing the anti-yeast diet, too. I just never seem to get results....it's frustrating. Please let me know how it goes for you and if it helps.

Are you taking Probiotics for your stomach while on abx? I'm assuming you are. Also, make sure you take other stomach, over-the-counter meds like Zantac or Pepsid. I took them daily before my stomach got bad for awhile and it helped.
I use to have awful stomach problems. Sometimes I'd be lying on the couch crying and writhing in pain.
One thing that helps is a nice, hot heating pad. I figured that out years after going through hours of pain.
When I finally stopped the bread, especially wheat bread, and other carbs, it helped a lot. Now I can have some occasionally (like sour dough bread) but not very often.
Sorry you're hurting but it will get better if you eat the right foods -- its not easy at first but it gets easier.

Nal,
I fell off the yeast free diet during the holidays, so I will encourage us both to stick to the healthy diet!
Try zantac and pepto bismol tablets together once a day for one week only. It really helps the stomach. However, be prepared for your tongue to turn brown from the bismuth.
Hang in there. The diet works and don't be surprised if you lose weight on it. Remember, if you die, the Lyme wins and there is no way I am ever going to let a little spirochete from a da*n tick win. Blessings. Hiker

Hey Nancy,
Hang in there. the diet isnt so hard to stick to.... Try this website wholeapproachforums
I found some good and very simple recipes. My favorite is zuchini pancakes made with garbanzo bean flour...very yummy.
Hang in there. I feel your pain, i had stomach problems for a week and thought i was going to die. The diet is worth a try.

Hi Nal,
Have you tried Cat's Claw for your stomach pain? My daughter had terrible problems with pain there and I suspect still would but she uses about 10 drops 2-3x/day and that keeps it under control. Cat's claw supposedly blocks TNF-alpha.
My daughter is not a doctor but she claims this works for her.

Thanks all.
first off, I am on prilosec. Im confused! So many on here say "no, no acid blockers at all... very bad for your stomach" and others say "yep, go for it and it really does help".
I was taking TOA free cats claw but my tummy was not feeling any better on it.
Grrrrr, I hear ya hiker-no friggin little tick sucker is gonna win but sometimes I wish it would. Ive had this for 6 years now. I figure if it was truely going to kill me, it would have by now!
Yes, I am on probiotics but I don't notice a difference at all!! I tried Primal Defense, but I cant afford it anymore. Im on jaro-dophalus right now but I dont think its doing diddly. What else should I try?

Nal, I responded to your message.
Just want to say again that the diet I am describing is NOT an anti-yeast diet. In fact, rice and potatoes are allowed. No wheat, corn, soy, oats, eggs, dairy, citrus, tomato, or peanuts. It is also good to avoid fermented/yeast products as an adjunct to the anti-allergy diet.
There is a difference of opinion here on Prilosec...I know it gives you short-term relief. It may be great for some. But since you have been on it for a long time, and you are in such discomfort, it seems that over the long haul it is either not helping or even hurting.
Your stomach needs acid for digestion, and to keep the balance of flora and fauna in your GI tract okay. The pH in your gut is off if you use it for a long time.
Short-term, these meds could promote healing but over a long time they can throw things off. At least that's what we have been told.
Is there any food that you can eat that doesn't hurt? Do you feel better if you don't eat at all?
I also wrote you again about gastrocrom- a great, very safe med that reduces inflammation in the gut. It is a clear liquid that is mixed with water, comes in small plastic vials.
Sorry if I am repeating myself! Going to bed...Try cream of rice in the am; rice and veggies or salad for lunch; potato, veg. and chicken for dinner- olive oil only. Maybe it will help! Myabe it won't. Worth a try.

Thanks Lydie for all the help! I should mention something here
My bravo test showed a low ph in my stomach (I registered around 2.0-5.0 the entire time)--thats a test of stomach acidity. I thought "wow, i have no acid in my tummy after taking these antacids", but the opposite was true-very acidic!
Also, my endoscope did show gastritis. I have been told that gastritis can simply come on because of Lyme too.
Im giving the diet Lydie mentioned a shot. I know that if I could just get the Lyme under control, the stomach would probably settle down too.

Did any MD say anything about the pH in your gut? Can Prilosec etc. have paradoxical reactions, or cause your body to compensate by making more acid?
My daughter's endoscopy showed bad gastritis, you could actually see a lot of yellow bile in the photo, along with the yeast, and the red, inflamed tissue was obvious.
She has absolutely no discomfort now.
The treatment was multi-pronged and the diet was accompanied by high doses of Difulcan and Nystatin. Did they find yeast in your gut or do any other biopsies, for H. Pylori or other bacteria for instance?
Good luck! p.s. rice crackers are available in most stores, good with avocados!

He said the ph was a little high (acidic). There was no evidence of yeast and he did a ton of biopsies and a couple different tests for h-pylori and all were negative.
I go in to see him again next week. We'll see what he says then. Ill ask him if the prilosec can actually cause the body to make more acid but I am not sure.
Maybe someone else on here can answer that question??
