Amy:
Antibiotics can cause problems with the stomach and intestines. Nausea and vomiting can be one of those problems.

Perhaps you could check with your son's doctor, and skip a couple doses of doxy, to let his stomach calm down.

I haven't been on long term antibiotics, so maybe someone with more experience in that area will have different advice.

Hope he feels better soon,
Carol

He has been on the doxy all along and not too many problems but all of a sudden he was throwing up today. The doctor said it may be a way the body is ridding of the toxins . We are all new to this and learning each day. Still wish I could wave a magic wand and make him be better! [Frown]

Yes throwing up can be part of a herx.

Hope your son feels better soon. Maybe you can back off the rx until it subsides.

Definately call the LLMD!

Thanks I did not know that it could be part of herx. I hope these buggers get out of my son quickly. It just kills me to see him this way!

HI Amy,
I get sick lots from abx too i'm sure it's a herx - your body's way of getting rid of toxins so see it as a good sign [Smile]
however it does make you even weaker at the time so i know how your son feels . my sickness seems to happen every few weeks so must be in cycles of the bugs

i usually reduce the dose of abx or stop them for few days til my stomach settles again & then i'm ok.

i hope your son feels better soon. wishing him well [Smile]

Remember the N/V of pregnancy?

The developing major organs of the fetus need a LOT of Mg, B6 and other nutrients which the developing child takes from "mom". Early on...esp. when the brain and heart are forming.

20% of our ATP is formed in the brain...and Mg is attached to ATP as Mg-ATP.

Mg and B6 levels drop = N/V.

Moms are now given very $ Zofran to block serotonin production in the bowel to curb the N/V.

Too much serotonin = N/V.

Years ago...they used to give Bendectin...which was an ANTIHISTAMINE and B6. Mg is an anti-histamine. Why it was pulled off the market is anyone's guess. It was never proven to cause harm. Sure worked for me!

Why is serotonin being overproduced? Maybe protective (substance P) reasons or vasodilation-vasoconstriction reasons. Too much NO (nitric oxide) being released = vasodilation? Serotonin is a vasoconstrictor.

Is he on probiotics to help preserve the health of his gut?

Many years ago, when they were ill...Hawaiians would go to the ocean and DRINK the MINERAL rich water to stimulate N/V and diarrhea to rid toxins.

The stomach acids are really strong acids. New stomach cells are made very often because of that (acids damage healthy cells). Too much throwing up could damage the esophagus lining (food tube from mouth to stomach).

Have you discussed pulsing the meds with his doctor?

If he got careless and didnt drink enough water it will make you sick, also get him some acidophilis yeast might be making him sicker.A herx can really bring a body into kaos overloaded with toxins from dying spirochetes they may have just cycled and wham big dye off = toxins.

| feel a bit nauseous very often, with or without abx. The only time i was throwing up, i actually did not really feel nauseous (sounds like a contradiction, right), at least not in the lyme kind of way that i usually fee. I think it was caused by kidney problems, some kidney parameters were way out of spec then due to minocyclin, olmesartan, bactrim and azithromycine combo....

Thanks everyone, I called dr. today and he is taking him off all med right now until his stomach settles. If he isn't doing better soon we may end up in the hospital with an IV so he does not become dehydrated! Yuck I hate the hospital and they do not take Lyme serious around here. [Roll Eyes]
