I've been getting a sharp pain in the right side of my stomach. It went away for a while but has come back since I've been taking Flagyl.
My doc had a look and pressed the area, and says it's my intestines, he didn't seem to think it was my liver - although it is in that sort of area. It seems to be worse in the morning - and always seems to come on when I have the first wee of the day!
Anyone else get this?

Since Lyme, I have had a LOT of intestinal pain and right side colon pain. I've never taken antibiotics, so it's not from that, for me. I read somewhere that Lyme, and sometimes parasites can cause intestinal pain.
Someone else will have much more information than I do, I'm sure.

Hi Milly,
I started the Flaygl but had to quit after just 6 doses because I had an allergic reaction to it. However, I remember a very heavy feeling in my intestines that improved with increased bowel movements.
I thought it might have been dead 'ketes. I know they have been in my intestines for some time causing lots of bloat, gas, etc.
Since I have been treating (mostly homeopathy) my intestinal issues have disappeared, but I do remember that about the Flagyl.

With antibiotics and pain the on the right side of the abdomen always be watchful for c. dificile.
This type of pain and very bad diharria or bloody dihaaria is a strong indicator for this problem.
That being said I had a similar problem but on the left side after starting a new abx (IV doxy).
It appeared to be muscle (parastolic muscles) related as after the pain ended there was a bout of hypo activity on that side.
Now the pain and the hypo that follows comes and goes during symptom flare up cycles.
It always goes away though.
It has never been as bad as when it started 4 days after I started Doxy IV though.
Given the timing I am pretty sure that it was a Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction, either in the GI area or in the nervous system.

and suspect gall bladder

I get that pain as well from all my antibiotics, though it's not severe. I started getting what the docs consider `gallbladder pain' ever since I got lyme more than 3 years ago. I wish I had a solution for ya; I just deal with the pressure and hope it will improve with time. Of course, if the pain becomes debilitating or severe you should think of having some gallbladder tests done. -Carrie
