Frustrated today at my sons appointment. The doctor never has even examed my son only talks to us. He is keeping him on the doxy 200 mg a day and took some blood. He is going to call us with the blood results to see how his body is doing on the antibotic and his yeast levels. We have been on doxy since November 23rd and also Nystatin at first for yeast. My son isn't feeling any difference but has had some herxing and lots of vommiting and sore stomach. I just feel like we were blown off today, I quess I want to hear good news just once!

Did this LLMD come with several happy satisfied customer recommendations? Not all LLMD's are created equal.

I say this time and time again not be be rude, but because it is important. You have to take control of your own health. You cannot wait for the doctor to decide what tests to run, what treatments to provide, etc. Go in with a list of tests YOU want to have run (IGenex, Immunosciences, etc.) and also at the same time do research and go in with the knowledge to discuss treatment options with your doctor. Then if you still don't get anywhere, find a new LLMD.
What tests were run to date? What were the results? Did you get copies? Were you tested for co-infections?

Did he go for the lymphatic massage and how did that go?

I agree with Scott. Please concerned mother don't expect the doctors to make it all better. You need them (traditional medicine) and combination of alternative to get your son over this.
Take care, Pam

I have done all kinds of things and he is also doing many herbal things along with vitamins for his system. He did not go for the lymphatic drainage he was having a bad day. We were tested by Igenex but not for coinfections as of yet. He is not showing any signs of them according to all my reading and the doctor. There are no doctors here in Michigan are at least willing to take patients. I wish I lived in New York so I could get more answers.
Thanks

Is it normal for doctors to just talk and not even look at you. He is tested the blood for yeast levels again and electrolytes and blood counts. He said he will call on Friday with results and let us know if we should back off of doxy or continue and maybe add new medicine into the mix. Posted by NP40 (Member # 6711) on :
Concerned Mom, check your PM's.

Well, check out my link below...he is a well respected LLMD and has helped hundreds of patients with LD...
I can never remember him "examining" me. I can't for the life of me think of what he would be examining anyway.

Both the doxy and the nystatin can cause a sore, nauseated stomach. I can't believe he didn't change the meds.
Perhaps time to travel or need to be more assertive.
Best, Karen

I am in the NY area where there are a "few" LLMD's. I happen to go to a very knowlegdable LLMD who has been practicing since the 80's on Lyme patients.
Anywho....... I kinda thought he was nonchallant and a little too speedy at first.
But I've come to realize that firstly I must list all the things which have happened over the month.
And that he needs a couple of months to see a pattern to be able to judge or move forward w/ rx's.
We know each other better now and I trust him.
Probably friday when your sons results come in the rx will get bumped up. Or something else will be added.
I did'nt even start to feel relief until week 5 of antibiotics. That's when the pain in my hands left me. That was just the beginning.
I've been on rx for a year. It's a slow road for me. I was sick 7 years prior.
There's hope. Supposedly kids heal faster.

Sure he does, Roses. Checks the ears, throat, lungs, liver, spleen, all that. Remember now??

Hi mom
Scence your son is on low dose of doxi you have to make all of it count--
Make sure Not to take with vitimins-minerals-dairy-- all combine with the doxi and can lower the effect to almost nothing--
Eat some crackers and drink lots of water--
Doxi dose work --slow tho--
If your son has been sick along time maybe doc dose not want son to have a strong herx?

Just a note of caution. Advocacy for a child, by a parent, brings hazards that don't exist for people advocating for themselves, as adults.
If parents of children with Lyme act too knowledgable, or too attentive to their child's health, show initiative and ask for tests,or get too aggressive, many are getting attacked by the medical establishment through state social services. This is the next battlefront in Lyme. Some parents are even being accused of Munchausen by proxy.
There are tricky ways to guide your child's health care, that aren't so evident. And protect yourself by keeping records and making sure an MD, preferably a primary care MD, is responsible in the record for all referrals, tests, and diagnoses.

Amy- I hear your frustration. Our llmd doesn't touch us except to draw blood.
Anyway, if you son is herxing and having tummy issues, more abx is probably not the right thing at this moment.
Curing this can take several years. The good news is the prognosis for young men is better than for their mom's. My son is doing very well after several years of treatment.
You have to believe yours will too. It just takes soo much time!
