Sorry for the graphic nature here but I have been faithfully taking two capsules of probiotics a day with kefir and yogurt. I'm on 300mg/day doxy and getting constipated. Should I stop the probiotics? Thanks

Humanbeing If you take abx without probiotics you are in for a whole world of hurt.
Doxy does two things for me.Makes me nauseated and constipated.
Do a search here. There are many good topics on this and many good sugestions.
I hope things get moving along for you. You can pm me if you want. Take care

I was just taken off mepron/ketek and placed on doxy 400mg @day last week.
In addition to probiotics and all the things I do for yeast, I increased my vit c and mag to help reduce the constipatation.
I use powdered forms of both since more of these in tablets parked in the colon don't really help me much.
I use a buffered C that I mix with water or flavored decaf hot tea and I use Calm mag - also mix in with a flavored tea. I'm trying to reduce my caffeine intake and I have been trying several new teas, blueberry, peach, roobos, green. I really dislike green tea but it tastes less like dirt if you add c powder or mag powder.
I'm surprised at how well these have worked in the short term - 5 days. Hopefully this regime will continue to work. If so it will be an easy fix.

IMO maybe you need more (live) probiotics.
Are you making sure you take them 2 hrs away from the abx?
There are other simple regimes you could add for constipation, but I wouldn't take away probiotics.

Hey, Human!
I agree with Elle about increasing magnesium. I did that when I had a similar problem, and it really helped quickly.
I gradually increased the amount of magnesium I take each day until my system was more regulated.
I definitely wouldn't stop the probiotics, though. As long as I'm taking antibiotics, I need to offset their effects with probiotics.
Hope this helps!

Thanks all, I am going to keep up with probiotics for fear of yeast. Will try your mag and c regimens.
Thanks again!

My LLMD told me to be sure and take the probiotics and I'm on doxycycline too. Mag-Ox400 at bedtime is a good laxative but does cramp the intestinal tract. I ordered some vitamin -C powdered effervescent form as recommended in Stephen Harrod Buhner's book on Healing Lyme.
