Just by searching internet and phone calls to Dr's. and friends I have noticed two things popping up over and over again!!! 1.Hashimoto Disease pre-Lymes/post-Lymes diagnose. 2. Many Nurses have one or the other. Would love to research why I am seeing this..... I was exposed to nitrogen mustard and other harmful Oncology drugs without masks or vents (1975-1990's) my Endocrinologist thought this caused Hashimoto...now he wonders..so do I! Just in my insomic stage at 2am wondering about these things...maybe Nurses exposures to many viruses and clearing in air meds via syringes and inhaling them caused immune system to go bad.... then tick bites them when their system is down...BAM Hashimotos??? Any input? THANKS FOR HELPING WITH MY CURIOSITY!!!(and lack of sleep!!) I send much empathy and love to all of you!!! Thanks for your time and efforts...kim

Not an RN, but will offer a few thoughts.
A lyme doc questioned whether I had been "diagnosed" with hashimotos specifically. It appeared to me that he was making a distinction between having thyroid autoantibodies and hashimotos. As if one did not always equal the other.
And I have found med lit that shows another apparent autoimmune condition which reversed when an underlying infection was treated. Have anecdotal reports of people with "successful" lyme treatment having normal thyroid antibody test results, after previously being abnormal.
So, what to make of this? Bb thought to hide in places and drape itself with proteins of human cells of various kinds. Maybe this reads as autoimmune. Don't know, just speculating.
Anyway, I am sure medical people are exposed to more things than the rest of us and don't have any clue how that might influence the picture.

FWIW - My mother was an R.N. before she became to ill to work and she has hashimoto's and sarcoidosis. I was very interested to read the Chinese study that states that 81% of sarcoidosis patients in the study tested positive for lyme. They speculate that sarcoidosis may actually be lyme.
I think my whole family has lyme and/or co-infections. My mother and I were the first to get sick over 40 years ago and we are all very sick now. We were raised in an area considered to be located in a fall-out area for a nuclear power plant in the State of Washington.
My cousin, also an R.N. has recently started to have symptoms similar to my immediate family. I'm wondering too.. Terry

There is also a frequency of teachers and nurses that have lyme disease that have morgellons disease. More nurses than teachers.

Hashimoto's is associated with celiac disease, which is associated with Lyme disease.

Fact is they just don't know. And can only go by histories. The best bet for treatment is a good
endo. I have read many reports of Hashi's with and without lyme. You may be on the right track, if
biopsy's were proven to contain Lyme. The older I get the less I believe in any so called autoimmune.

I am a CRTT. Ive worked in hospitals most of my adult life. I don't have Hashi.
How does this only occur in nurses? I'm glad its an issue I don't have to deal with. One less thing
to worry about. I just found this intersting.
