Can a person relapse after being symptom free for 13 years? Is yes, what is the recommended treatment? I am 35 yrs. old and for the past few months I've been having wierd symptoms...numbness in hands, feet, leg...double vision in just left eye...dizziness...sore right knee, sometimes so painful I can't walk, it also 'gives out' sometimes. I had an MRI done and my friend (who's a radiologist) read it and found 3 areas of white matter lesions. When I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease 13 years ago, I had encephilitis and meningitis. I know that this can also cause white matter lesions. I recieved a 4 or 6 week course of Rocephin through an IV back in '93. I have been symptom free since then, until now. Could I be relapsing? I really can't see it being MS even though that is what my dr and friend want to rule out. Thanks so much for your help! ~Nancy

Yes you can relaspe after a long time .I did after 9 years.It can lay dormant for a very long time.And then can re-amerge from different factors.Stress,sugery's,hormonal changes ect...
And you can be re-infected and not even notice it. The ticks can be very small and alot of people with lyme never even see a tick.They feed and then drop off.Some of the ticks are the size of a period at the end of this sentence.
Also only 40/50% of people with lyme ever get the rash.You can even get the rash in your scalp area that is covered by hair.
Do you have access to a LLD?
This is very important because this is a very complex disease.A good LLD will also test at a good lab like IGENEX & also test and or treat co-infections.And will know how to disifer the bands and what importance the different bands say.
Here is a good audio tape by dr. fallon that goes into lesions seen on lyme patients and also compares lyme lessions to lession seen in other disease's.About 10 minets into the tape.Don't let the title freak you "Neuropsychiatric lyme" It really does have a good section devoted to mri & brain spect scans & lesions.

Ugh, thanks for your input Dana! I guess I need to start figuring all of this out and I'll have to look for an LLD in the Cincinnati area. I'm glad I found this site.

And you could start a post with ..someting like "looking for a LLD in cincinnate area"if you can't find via the newbie links.
